RCC Spring 2019

Published

Hello all! I haven't seen a page for Spring 2019 hopefuls yet, so I'm creating this one. If anyone has any comments/concerns/questions please post!

To start: RCC is in the early stages of developing a concurrent BSN program starting estimated Fall 2019. From what I remember at the info session, it will be about $15k and done through either CSUF or CSUSB. They are hoping to have 50% concurrent enrollment initially, and 100% later on. They are supposed to be meeting later this year (October-ish) to discuss it. I'm excited to learn more! It's definitely worth keeping up on if any of you are interested in pursuing your BSN afterwards.

I didn't get in either, and I know I had high points, their points system must've been real high this round. Hopefully next time, definitely making an appointment with Jackie to find out exactly why. Good luck guys, let's not get discouraged.

I heard on another forum that it was more difficult to get accepted during the Spring than the Fall. Not sure if this is true or not, but maybe it's worth noting.

. I spoke to Jackie before applying and asked her if there was anything I needed to do to increase my chances of getting in and she told me I was fine sitting at 71 points. It doesn't make any sense.

Congrats to all of those who got in! I got in as well! Can't wait to meet you all! I highly suggest meeting with Jackie a couple times and try to get some sort of hospital experience!

Has anyone made a FB page yet?

I haven't seen anything yet

I would wait, they made us suspend ours. We have a groupme instead. They're very strict. We're not allowed to be out in public in our uniforms. We're not allowed to post pictures in our uniforms on any social media platform. We can't post any RCC SON logos, so no ID nor your skills bag on social media.. and the list goes on..

Oh, really?! I can understand that, though. I'm sure we'll learn some more about that in the weeks coming! Thank you!

How are those of you who got in feeling? Any questions?

I'm on vacation right now in another state, so I was feeling pretty paranoid about immunizations! I tried finding them this summer, and never made the appointment to get titers done beforehand (should have). So I'm getting them done away from home! Lol. Just got my tdap and 1st part of TB test.

I am currently under the impression RCC breaks up this class into cohort groups? Is that right? 80 students in one cohort seems like a lot compared to most other schools in the area.

Also, how flexible are they with the uniform policy on shoes? I'm hoping they'll have some examples at intake day. And watches? I know they need the secondhand, but is that all?

Also, when do they release the textbook lists? More time to search=more $ saved and time to start reading, hopefully!

And last question- What do you wish you knew prior to the start of your first semester?

Mostly I'm telling myself to calm down and enjoy my vacation, because all of these questions will be addressed soon. But, I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling like this!

Yes, those of you who got in, get your titers done ASAP! If you don't have your immunizations, you cannot register. The sooner you get them done, the better chance you have at getting your first choice clinical site.

Yes, two cohorts, A&B, you chose your cohort depending on how many days a week you're on campus. Cohort A is there 4 days a week and Cohort B is there 3 days a week.

Our uniforms are from a new company, Dove Apparel. They're very uncomfortable and very pricey. I paid about $350 for 2 sets and a lab coat. Your shoes have to be completely black and leather like. Also, black socks and make sure your ankles are covered when you sit down. Yes, watch with secondhand. Any color is fine, I use my apple watch.

The textbooks are mostly digital since you need an online portion to do questions, called PrepU. I think I paid close to $1,000 for that bundle. You will have homework due the very first day of class, so you'll need to buy your books beforehand. You will get all of this info during bootcamp.

I wish I knew how to study and prioritize. Seriously, nursing school is nothing like pre-reqs. I am a mom and a wife, and it is so hard to prioritize when I get home. Use your time wisely. Your staff is amazing and always willing to help.

Enjoy your vacation!! Let me know if I can help with anything else.

Thank you for the info!! Hopefully I can pick a clinical site closer to me, since I'll be commuting from the high desert! I should have almost everything submitted before the end of the year.

Wow the uniforms are pricey! Although, there's not much we can do about that :(

I so admire all the parents/spouses that go through school! I don't have any kids, nor am I married, and I plan on quitting my FT job soon, so I should be OK with that. I do live with my boyfriend, but he's also in school for an ELM-NP, so if anything, it helps! Now it's his turn to take up dinner and laundry :p
