RCC Spring 2019

Published

Hello all! I haven't seen a page for Spring 2019 hopefuls yet, so I'm creating this one. If anyone has any comments/concerns/questions please post!

To start: RCC is in the early stages of developing a concurrent BSN program starting estimated Fall 2019. From what I remember at the info session, it will be about $15k and done through either CSUF or CSUSB. They are hoping to have 50% concurrent enrollment initially, and 100% later on. They are supposed to be meeting later this year (October-ish) to discuss it. I'm excited to learn more! It's definitely worth keeping up on if any of you are interested in pursuing your BSN afterwards.

Hi! I'm applying to RCC for Spring 2019. I originally wanted to do MSJC's ADN program, but missed their transcript evaluations. Does anyone else think that RCC has a really weird point system? I would've had around 90/100 points for MSJC, but for RCC I'll have only around 75 points depending on how I do on the TEAS. How many points will you have when applying?

I considered MSJC, but it's just a bit too far for me right now. If I end up moving to Wildomar next year, I would definitely be applying! I also looked at their point system just now, and yes, it is different. I think most schools offer points for AA, but for some reason RCC got rid of it a few application periods ago, I think. I'm actually happy they don't give points for it, because while I have the credits to get my AA (doesn't every pre-nursing student?), I don't see the point in getting it. I've also read somewhere on this site someone was having trouble receiving FinAid for an ADN program due them already having an associate's degree. I wouldn't worry about your points being lower for RCC. It may not be near the full 100 points, but most other applicants won't be either. Last application period they accepted students down to 67 or 68 points (I met with the counselor and she did confirm it). Also, some application periods are stronger than others, so you never know. I'll have 73 points, and just bit the bullet and finally submitted the app today! If you have at least a 3.6 in your science GPA, don't do what I did last semester!! I was looking at the email account I emailed my app with (gmail) and old RCC email (outlook), not my new RCC email (outlook 365). I was invited to take the TEAS and didn't even know until WAY after the fact. I was a little disheartened thinking the application pool was strong since I wasn't invited (or so I thought at the time) and spent $$ and more time driving to a testing center than I should have. I also didn't study too much after seeing the material wasn't that difficult. My TEAS score wasn't bad, but I definitely feel as though I could've done better. Too bad they're only accepting the first score, otherwise I'd try to retake it. Good luck with your application!

Hi everyone. I submitted my application last Thursday. (I'm excited!!) Does anyone know if a Medical Assistant and or Mental Health Worker is considered volunteer work since it does not apply to CNA,LVN etc. Thanks.

Best of luck! Now we only have to wait a million years until we find out! Haha. As for MA or mental health work counting as volunteer experience, I would say most likely no. Not due to lack of relevancy, but because it was paid work, not volunteer work. I'd ask the nursing counselor for clarity and peace of mind, though.

I'm so excited! RCC has been my top choice for nursing school since I started college. I'm working on my application right now. This is my first time applying for nursing school and I couldn't be more stoked. Best of luck to everyone! Just a quick question about the application, did you guys print it, fill it out and scan it or did you just fill it out in the PDF?

I just filled it in using adobe. For whatever reason, this time around it kept changing my student ID to a whole number, using commas. But if I opened up the pdf using Microsoft's new browser (Edge), it would show correctly. I hadn't really thought about printing it out to avoid that, so good idea! As long as your writing is legible I'm sure it's acceptable.

I'm so nervous, submitted my application last week. I've been on the look out for the receipt email ever since. Time to study for the Teas to keep distracted, good luck everyone!

Hi all! I sent in my application last Wednesday, sept 5! Also anxiously waiting for the received receipt! I'm going in with 73 points! I spoke with the counselor a few times and she said that based on the amount of points students had the last few semesters I should have enough, so fingers crossed! Good luck to everyone and hope to see you all in the spring!

SAMA34:

MSJC is a bit closer for me which is why it was my first choice. I have talked to alumni from both RCC and MSJC's ADN program and they have nothing but great things to say. I was bummed about RCC not offering points for having an AA because I know quite a few people applying who do no have one. In my opinion is doesn't make sense for someone with a BA to apply for this program when they can just do an accelerated BSN program and be done with their BSN in under 2 years. It doesn't make sense why someone would spend 2 years doing the ADN program then have to go back for their BA. The only reason I can think of is them having trouble getting into an accelerated program. After doing some research it does look like most people who have gotten into RCC's program had points in the 70s so I'm hopeful! What a bummer about not seeing the email! I beat myself up over missing MSJC's transcript evaluations; I would really beat myself up if I missed that email. I will double check my email to make sure I'm looking in the right spot. Thanks for the heads up! I have a 3.6 science GPA so I'm praying I get invited to take the TEAS. I've been using the ATI study package and I've been doing pretty well. Did you use ATI study material to prepare for the TEAS? If so do you think the TEAS was similar to the material you were studying? I'm so nervous to take the TEAS, as I've heard it's pretty tough. Good luck to you as well!

I used adobe as well to submit the application. It was also changing my ID number to a whole number. I figured I wasn't the only one with this problem. I don't think it's a big deal. I'm sure they'll notice its like that on numerous peoples applications. This also my first time applying to nursing school so I'm really nervous! Good luck to everyone

Yes. It seems like an eternity. Thanks for your response. I got an email back from the counselor and it will not count as anything. :(
