Rank when entering

Could someone explain to me how ranking is determined? I just asked my recruiter to verify what rank I should be entering if all goes well. I will have my masters in healthcare administration and 7+ years of nursing. She told me with my Masters I will go in as an 0-2. I could have sworn she told me 0-3 when I initially starting talking to her.

what branch? O-3 would make more sense with the degree and time in job

I am also curious. My spouse is getting ready to retire from the army after 26 years. Our last child enters college next fall. I am 48 y/o, an RN MSN with (OMG) 28 years experience (with the army life, you name it, I have done it.) Certified CCRN, CEN, CCRP, CNAA ....eligible for a few others. Love research at present. In shape, think I can pass physical no problem. Could I get in? What rank? What bonus? We have enjoyed the military life, too young to retire - maybe time to change life roles..............any thoughts?

Being a nurse I do not thing they would bring you in as a Captain and possibly a Major. Being 48 you would need a age waiver, not sure if they are giving many out at this time. If you are serious I would contact a Health Care Recruiter right away since the accession board meets in a couple of months.

I just went through flight nursing school with a bunch of Captains and a few Majors. I would hold out for O3. I think most of the Captains had BSN with 7 or more years of experience. I'm O2 with 6 years nursing and BSN.

Well, the recruiter got back to me and she said with the Masters I would get 2 years credit and over 4 yrs full time , paid , qualified nursing experience may earn another rank. I guees it is all up to them when they decide all your information. However, I remember someone posting about a rank their recruiter told them that they would come in as but when it came down to it she or he got a rank less than told. That does not seem right.

That would be me. When my contract was generated, it was as a 1LT. My orders were as a 2LT. There is a discrepancy in the amount of constructive credit I should have received between when my contract was generated, and when my orders were cut. I've already promoted to 1LT anyway now, but I am still chasing down the discrepancy via a review board process (i.e., it'll be 8 to 10 months from document submission until I know anything, LOL).

Specializes in ICU and CRNA.

I have 15 years nursing experience and 8 as CRNA. I commissioned a year ago and was given 5.5 years constructive credit. This was on the reserve side. I talked to HRC in st louis and was told that new accessions in the nurse corps are never brought in higher than 1LT.

BTW recruiters do not determine rank. HRC determines rank.

Lunah, glad to hear you are looking into it. Remind me how many years you had nursing I thought it was more than mine. I just passed my 6 year mark in June. Will have my Masters next summer so 7+ years nursing and a Masters is my experience. Stephgor, you only received 5.5 years credit? I am confused then how it works. So, HRC looks at all your credential and makes the determination of what you will actually get? You come in as 1LT?

Ha! You have twice as much as I do -- I have just 3 years of RN experience, although I also worked as an ER tech for 3+ years and I've been a paramedic for 8 years. Those things don't count. :D
