amid all the frustrations, i thought it might be cool to have a topic about positive things that happen at work. it can be anything, from big to small.
what happened at work today that was good? was there a bright spot in the whirling sea of c-diff and paperwork?
mine yesterday was having a patient who was listening to swing music in her room. (i LOVE swing dancing so i was all nerding out here.) we talked about music while i did her treatments and she wasn't familiar with much electro-swing at all, so i recommended some youtube playlists. after lunch she was listening to it and was like 'this is great; i had no idea!' double yay because i made someone happy with awesome new music, and her room was right near the nurses' desk so i got to listen to it while i charted.
anyone else? :)
Every morning when I'm leaving work, my 8 year old non-verbal patient comes to the door with me, blows me a kiss, & signs "I love you". When he started doing this at age 3, I assumed he did the same for all his nurses. His mom told me recently that he only does this for me & one other nurse.
We were swamped on monday and i was starting yet another hallway pt.
Just as we get going with the "why are you in the er tonight" conversation this mid-50's guy walking by stops and turns towards me. Big smile and says "i'll bet you don't remember me but you saved my life last month". I reply with my standard jackie gleason "omina omina omina". He says "i'm fine, just visiting someone but saw you and wanted to say thanks". I got out a ""you're welcome". He shook my hand and continued on.
The reaction from my current pt & family was along the lines of "whatever".
