Or, $7,500 if you just want her virtually. Good to know that negligent homicide is such a lucrative endeavor.

her unit was so over-staffed she didn't even have an assignment

yeop - overall seems like it should have been the ideal opportunity to really slow things down to maximize teaching (new employee? staff nurse stepping into help role?) and also take advantage of the chance to spend more time with patients, Christmas time at a big money major magnet(tm) medical center pre-COVID so also pre-holiday discharges, plenty of staff, etc

What a judgemental, cruel attitude some people have. Any one can make a mistake, or even a cascade of mistakes that lead to a tragedy. We are human, and people make mistakes. There were many systematic problems that should be addressed before adding criticism to someone who has been through a trial and had her punishment administered. Have some compassion.

I've made a med error. I owned my own actions and the patient was fine. I didn't slam the meds walk away and hope for the best

I'm glad you were this fortunate.

I will still have compassion and empathy for those who weren't as lucky, even if they contributed to their own situation. I doubt any nurse sets off in the morning to accidentally kill someone, and I will keep that belief alive.

If nastiness and bitterness serves you well, carry on. Perhaps time will soften your edges.

Unlikely.

Did you read the title of this post? You speak of a lack of compassion. I think profiting off of killing another human being, whether you meant to or not, is the most egregious example of a lack of compassion there could possibly be. It's. Just. Gross.

This was more than a mistake. This was egregiously sloppy, careless behavior that ended up killing someone. Someone compared it to Kim Potter, which I think is a good analogy (I lived in Minneapolis during that time so followed the case closely).

Please tell us - what were the systematic problems that contributed to Charlene Murphey's death?

I'm not bitter, and I'm not being nasty, I'm saying hard truths.

I have zero empathy for incompetence, especially on basic knowledge items.
