Management at our hospital wants us to constantly tell the patients that we are giving them "very good care, very good care, we hope that we are giving you very good care". One of my relatives just got out of the hospital in a different state and he said that the hospital staff there were chanting this mantra too. It drove him crazy; he thought they were trying to hypnotize him. My question is, Do you think this has a good effect on patients and families? That is, if the staff tells them all the time they are trying to give them very good care, do you think that raises the Press Ganey scores, or do you think that the majority of the public thinks this is strange?
"Very good" is such a B-rated phrase to me. The following adjectives sound better in my opinion, although I'd never say them to a patient, because most patients are astute enough to decide for themselves about the quality of care being provided.
1. "You are getting superior care."
2. "You are getting outstanding care."
3. "You are getting excellent care."
4. "You are getting the best care."
5. "You are getting premium care."

I think if I kept hearing this, I'd wonder how many people were suing the hospital. I don't know who the "genius" is that came up with all of this Press-Ganey stuff, but they need some serious feedback from the nurses who have to live with this.
I wonder if this is the same CEO genius who actually stated in a "Quality Improvement" inservice that, "Patients don't know if they are getting good care. So we're not going to worry about that anymore. We're going to focus on making them feel good."
I agree that many patients and families don't know if they are getting good care. They have no idea how often Granny's vs should be checked, or what meds she's on, or whether that's actually her IVF bag that's hanging. But I'm equally certain that no patient ever got good care at that hack hospital. Far more important (in administration's mind) to answer the phone with the proper script, and shake hands with people in the hallway. (No, I'm not kidding!)
That is the point I would have stood and walked out.I wonder if this is the same CEO genius who actually stated in a "Quality Improvement" inservice that, "Patients don't know if they are getting good care. Seriously. I'm getting to old for this crap.
