Does anyone know what Im talking about? Those old nurse uniforms (ala 'That 70's Show) that are commonly refered to as Betty Nurse uniforms now. Anyone use to have to wear them?
Im a guy, and so the older uniforms for us looked like orderly outfits (which I kinda like better) and I told my grandmother I think Id like the old uniforms better because they looked more professional and she very quickly slapped me silly
She remembered her earlier years as an RN in WestVirgina and said they old uniforms were horrible.
I think they look more professional and sort-of labeled you as the nurse. Whats everyones opinions? Im going to assume the gals like the scurbs better and probally most guys too.. but I just like older ones
yes snowiern, know what you're talking about and no, never had to wear one...Thank Goodness
when I graduated in 1989, though, whites were still very much "in"
after I left hospital nursing and went to a SNF, whites were required, didn't necessarily have to be a dress/skirt, but nurses were in all white...oh, and NO CAP, NO WORK...this wasn't too long ago, 1991/92 or so.
Caps became optional in 92.
I scanned various pages of the "Betty Uniform" site, and found many uniforms to be tasteful and professional looking. Other than my own uniform picture I posted a few weeks ago on my uniform thread, here is a pic of one that I admire and respect as being professional (not trashy or betty boopy looking):
If you think of the white uniform...with or without the nurse cap...as trashy, cheap, Mediao like, maid material, or anything of the like, then that is what you will see and imagine.
If you think of the white uniform as professional looking that is what you'll see and imagine it to be. This is the way I imagine it, see it, and remember it. I am returning to whites...with cap...and some days without...no dresses........just slacks, top, and scrub whites. Why? I looked extremely professional in my whites and cap, and I miss the look.
Here's another pic I found on the "Betty Uniform" site that I like:
Women wore stiff girdles and cast iron bras anyway "back in the days", just like women are NOW wearing softer more comfortable bras and panties anyway..........no matter what occupation they are in from motherhood to the prez of some major corporation. Women had it ROUGH period "back in the day", and I really don't think we have it as good now as we'd like to think. We have always danced to the tune of the "It's a Man's World".....the "look" and "feel of living life as a woman in a man's world" has simply recolored itself to blind us into thinking we have ARRIVED! :rotfl:
It's "Big Brother 4" time...gotta go for now.

My DH too was very disappointed when I told him that the student nurse uniform did not, in any way, shape, or form include a short skirt, stockings, garter belt, 4 inch heels, and a little white cap!
