"Betty nurse" uniform

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Does anyone know what Im talking about? Those old nurse uniforms (ala 'That 70's Show) that are commonly refered to as Betty Nurse uniforms now. Anyone use to have to wear them?

Im a guy, and so the older uniforms for us looked like orderly outfits (which I kinda like better) and I told my grandmother I think Id like the old uniforms better because they looked more professional and she very quickly slapped me silly

She remembered her earlier years as an RN in WestVirgina and said they old uniforms were horrible.

I think they look more professional and sort-of labeled you as the nurse. Whats everyones opinions? Im going to assume the gals like the scurbs better and probally most guys too.. but I just like older ones :o

Specializes in MICU, neuro, orthotrauma.

wear a dress with hose and work a 12 hour shift lifting, stretching, pulling, chasing, and cleaning up poop and then come back and tell us how much you prefer the older uniforms.

:D

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

And white never stays white, it goes gray and looks dingy.

When I started my first job as a nurse, my husband told me he'd like to see me in one of those nursing dresses. A really, really short one. Guess my navy scrubs didn't turn him on much.

And maybe you'd like to work 12 hours with one of those little starched caps stuck to your head, constantly getting tangled in things.

A coworker told me a story, of why a certain hospital she worked at finally banned caps. Two nurses were in the middle of a code, and when they bent over the crash cart, their caps became entwined!! Precious moments were lost as they struggled to get their caps off their head and unentangled with eachother. Caps were then banned in the ICU and throughout the rest of the hospital.:p

Here ya go Snowie. I've never heard of a Betty uniform, but this site has 250+ pages of all kinds. It's a British site so there are some differences.

Oh and besides the starched uniform and cap, you will need a full slip, white hose and Clinic brand shoes polished to a high luster.

A navy or white cardigan is the only accessory.

Specializes in MICU, neuro, orthotrauma.

you dont think the ladies would hate it, too? it's horrible to try and keep something starched white clean while performing all the tasks we have at hand as a nurse.

i think the betty nurse uniforms are best left in the realm of fantasy island. i have no clue why some guys get off thinking about the starched white dress and nursing cap, but they do...

I dont get off to any girl, not matter what shes wearing lol. I was pointing out I liked the ~MALE~ version of the betty uniform. The orderly/mental worker uniform.

sweet pea, i was not accusing you of having a nursie uniform fetish, i was talking in general. please don;t take offense. you did say that you think they look more professional and mentioned women as well as men. since i am not a man, i have no preference for what men would be required to wear.

i have had to deal with the occasional loonie who says ever so sweetly to me that i would look great in a nursie uniform  :chuckle
