Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Hope that this helps................ :balloons:

Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.

Hi! Suzanne

I'm an n-clex passer and recently the US consulate in Manila has given me an immigrant visa EX1 and it says there, that this visa will expire a year from the time I arrive in the US. This coming Jan. 2006, I will be going to New York. I like to clear this issue, if you are given an immigrant visa, is it similar to green card? Why is there an expiration date? I thought that immigrant visa is a standing visa unless you will apply for a US citizenship. I'm vague on this idea.:uhoh3: :uhoh3:

Hi, suzanne!! You are amazingly nice!! You response to everyone's question so fast and so clear, it's really great we have someone like you to help us.

I am from Taiwan, and I am here with my husband with a J visa. (I have J2). I had a BS degree of nursing in Taiwan 8 years ago, but I did not work as a nurse after I graduated. I am planing to pick up my books and work as a nurse here in Maryland.

After I looked over this forum, I had some idea of how I start. But could you please help me clear them?

1. Should I take the English Exam first? What kind English exam should I take? Where to apply? How to prepare? How much does it cost?

2. Should I go ahead and apply for the CES from CGFNs website(I mean apply on the internet) even I haven't start study yet?

3. Do I also apply visa screen certification from CGFNs?

4. Should I apply for Nelex-RN test after I have all the three steps down?

5. How much are total expense? Is it really that I might be able to get reimbursed from my future employer?

6.As you pointed out, go to NY state is the fastest way to get things down. May I know if I could use the computer and take the NY state Nelex-RN exam here in Maryland?

Thanks a lot!!:kiss

The CES is required as an evaluation of your schooling, it will take several months to get done.

Maryland does require the TOEFL series for licensure, it can be useed for the requirements for the green card. They currently do nto accept the IELTS series, which I prefer. Not sure what the cost is as they jhave just changed the format of the TOEFL exam. You can look it up at www.ETS.com.

You will be required to obtain the Visa Screen Certificate, you can apply for it at the same time that you submit for the CEs, or you can wait. If you are already in Maryland, you can just go that route for licensure, it will not make much of a difference to you as far as time.

AS far as starting to prepare for the exam, get the Saunder's Comprehensiver Review for the NCLEX-RN and start with the first tip that I have posted in a sticky at the top of the NCLEX Discussion Froum.

Green cards do have an expiration date, usually 5 years. You do not have the final green card in your hand yet. You will receive it after you arrive in the US.

Hi Suzanne

I wanted to ask you for a sticky on how to study for the NCLEX RN ? My last exam was Sept of last year, however I didnt had the chance to review (which I regret) and now I am lost... Can you please give me tips on how to start again???

I planned to use the Saunders again because it did help me last time... Actually I have 3 different review books that I wanted to read into which is

EXAM CRAM for NCLEX RN

NSNA Nclex RN

and the Saunders

I figured that I need to add other books to broaden my knowledge and be familiar with other questions.... I just don't know how to incorporate them all.. Im planning to take the board again next May so I wanted to be really prepared this time...

My other friends told me that a study partner is good too... But I'm not comfortable with that...I have been out of the medical field for more than 10 years and I am not equipped with the needed tools to help me pass this exam.

I need your expertise...

Thanks!:p

Hi Suzanne

Ive been reading this amazing sticky but got some confused, first of all let me explain all my situation and plizzzzzzzzzzzzz give me advice.

I am a peruvian nurse, I passed CGFNS and TOEFL my visascreen is coming (hope soon) the problems start here: about two years ago I got the ATT for California to take NCLEX but my Visa to enter US was denied, so right now I dont have a Visa to get in the US and take the exam and as you know my chances to obtain a Tourist Visa in the Embassy after that denial are minimal for next 3 years (thats why I took the CGFNS+TOEFL way). So I willl have my visascreen ...and then??

Where should I apply to take NCLEX to NY or Vermont or another state? Should I apply right now or wait some time as I have read that the NY ATT is only for 90 days!! ? consider that I need it the quickest in order to gen in US as soon as possible.

After (or before) getting the ATT what can I do to enter US (as I have no option to get a Visa), look for hospital or agencies (are them reliable)?I have family in Miami so they could help in asking for sponsor hospitals any place in US, but in one of them not sure if it was Jackson Memorial told them that I have to get the NCLEX to work for them (impossible as I do not have Visa and cannot take it in London or other city cause it is also so difficult to get a Visa)

Is it possible to get a full license in any state only with Visascreen?

thank you for your attention and Happy new year :) !!

If you have a Visa Screen Certificate, it means that you have passed either CGFNS or the NCLEX and are then eligible for a green card. You must take the NCLEX exam to get a license to practice in the US. There are a few states that will issue you a temporary or interim license based on passing the CGFNS exam, but that is not a full license and you will still only have x-amount of time to take and pass the CGFNS exam.

Any ATT is only good for 90 days.................from any state, that is why I always suggest that the foreign nurse not pay for the NCLEX exam until they are ready to take the exam, because once their credentials have been acccepted, and they pay for the exam, that is it.

If you have already been accepted by CA, I would just contact them, and pay the additional fee.

There is a sticky at the top of the NCLEX Discussion Forum on how to get started. I suggest that you follow that, and only use the Saunder's Comprehensive Review. Did you do your training here or overseas?

Not sure about Montana, but CA is now 3 full years for the grace period to give them a SSN#.

You can go ahead and get petitioned for a green card now, not sure if you are waiting for a specific reason or?

Did you ever submit the CES? That may be why you are not getting a response from them. That is required before they will give you any information as they have nothing to evaluate without that.

I do not recommend CA for initial licensure, especially if you are a foreign nurse. It will take you close to six months before you get permission to even sit for the NCLEX exam, you will have to wait for snail mail to get your results, several weeks, later. You cannot endorse to another state, if you decide to, as you will not have a SSN#-------------

You will need to submit an application to them, they do their own evaluation, and decide each transcript its own.
