Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

Published

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Hope that this helps................ :balloons:

Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.

Hello everybody,hi Suzanne

This is my first post on this board.Ishould have known this helpful website a long time ago.

I'm from east europe and Icame in US 4 year ago with a student program (student work and travel ,visa J1 ....wich is verry hard to sxcenged in enithing else, I have SSN...ID...)and mi visa is expired in this time.

I'm a RN with5 year experience in neonatal intensive care in my contry ,CGFNS accepted my credentials for NY so I'm redy for the nclex exam but i have a big problem;- can i apply for the visa screen certificate and then for adjustment of status w.expired visa.

what should i do???

Thanks in advance. cserm

Sorry, but no. The J-1 visa is an exchange visa and requires that you leave for two years. Take a close look at what your visa states. Also, nothing can be done with an expired visa, and check your visa closely. Does it state that it cannot be adjusted? Most of them do.

But your first thing would be to see an immigration attorney as soon as possible. If they are unalbe to correct your expried visa, then you will be expected to leave the country right wawy, if you do not and get caught, you can be deported for up to 10 years. Seek counsel of an immmigration attorney as quickly as possible.

How long was your visa for and when did it actually expire?

hello ,and thanks for your help

the visa get expired 3 year ago,and 4 week ago i get the NO OBJECTION statment from my country ...(this is a statement from the country to wich the exchange visitor is othrwise obligated to return)I have been wayting for this no objection for 3 years.

wath should i do now??.do you know any immigration attorney in NY who cen help me

The visa expired three years ago, and you have stayed here for that amount of time? The issue that you are going to come across if that they have severely cut back on renewing expired visas. There is a big move going on to immediately deport. Your issue is not that you were waiting for the letter, but that you overstayed the visa.

What does it actually say on your visa? Normally, a J-1 visa cannot be extended.

I only work with attorneys in CA, not sure who to suggest if you want one specifically in NY.

Specializes in NVICU, NSICU.
thanks silverdragon102 & safewaygreenbox.

it seems they've finally input my paper application into their computer.

what happened then is that they created another order, cancelled the online form i filled out, and then automatically filled out another form as re-applicant!

my order status page is getting messy.

photos "received but not reviewed."

other documents (validation) "waiting to be received."

and it's past their august 10 deadline already. from the fedex tracking number given by my nursing school though, the documents should have been delivered a few days before the deadline.

there is a lag in their updating their systems, likely due to the high volume of mails they get everyday.

i do hope i can sit for the november 9 cgfns exam.

i suggest that either you send in a paper application, or fill up the online form.

don't do both.

a caveat though, the online application can be a little confusing, and the edit button doesn't work. so if you make a mistake, you're gonna have to call up or write cgfns.

i think the paper application is best.

hi! i am an md also who just passed the local nsg boards in manila. it's good i read your advise as i was planning on filling up the forms on-line and sending paper mails by courier. thanks for sharing this experience.:)

aquarian

Never, ever do both. The paper version is the route that all of you should take. If you try doing both, you are essentially creating two accounts and heaven knows where any of your papers will get placed.

Those of you that did it this way are finding this out now. You could have saved much waiting time by doing things the old fashioned way and just sending everything by courier.

hi suzanne! i am planning to sit for my nclex this year but am not planning to go and work in the usa till another one to two years time, as my kids are still very small. i was just wondering if i were given a rn license after passing the nclex, does it expire? thanks in advace

bec

Depends on the state, it can have a two to four year expiration. Also depends on which state that you are taking it for, some do not issue you the actual license until you have a SSN#.

Hi suzanne4

I'm a lpn in Montreal who is studying to become an Rn. I will be graduated in two years and want to work in Florida afterwards. Tell me, do I have to do the same things as in NY to have my license and when do you recommend for me to start sending my papers so they can be ready in 2008.

And another thing, would it be better and quicker if I wait to graduate and try to get hired by a hospital in florida, 'cause at the end of this program there will be a seminar where a lot of employers from everywhere will come and hire new graduates.

Thanks.

There is absolutely nothing that you can do until you actually graduate and have a completed set of transcripts to submit. Since you are in Montreal, is your training in French or English? If French, you will be required to write the series of English exams. You will also need to apply for a Visa Screen Certificate.

Florida requires a Credentials Evaluation called the CES before they will authorize you to sit for the NCLEX exam. Again, this cannot be applied for until you have a completed set of transcripts. You will first need to get permission to sit for the NCLEX exam, and then get the Visa Screen Certificate in hand before you will be able to get a TN Visa. You can do that at the border with a written job offer and the Visa Screen Certificate.

You are looking at at least six to seven months after graduation before you will have the proper documents that will permit you to work legally in the US. It will not be immediately after you graduate, so you may wish to get some experience at home first. If you graduate in May, you are looking at January or so, of the following year before you will be able to start working.

You will normally not see a new grad program starting in either November or December.

Hi, suzanne!! You are amazingly nice!! You response to everyone's question so fast and so clear, it's really great we have someone like you to help us.

I am from Taiwan, and I am here with my husband with a J visa. (I have J2). I had a BS degree of nursing in Taiwan 8 years ago, but I did not work as a nurse after I graduated. I am planing to pick up my books and work as a nurse here in Maryland.

After I looked over this forum, I had some idea of how I start. But could you please help me clear them?

1. Should I take the English Exam first? What kind English exam should I take? Where to apply? How to prepare? How much does it cost?

2. Should I go ahead and apply for the CES from CGFNs website(I mean apply on the internet) even I haven't start study yet?

3. Do I also apply visa screen certification from CGFNs?

4. Should I apply for Nelex-RN test after I have all the three steps down?

5. How much are total expense? Is it really that I might be able to get reimbursed from my future employer?

6.As you pointed out, go to NY state is the fastest way to get things down. May I know if I could use the computer and take the NY state Nelex-RN exam here in Maryland?

Thanks a lot!!:kiss

Hi Suzanne

Ive been reading this amazing sticky but got some confused, first of all let me explain all my situation and plizzzzzzzzzzzzz give me advice.

I am a peruvian nurse, I passed CGFNS and TOEFL my visascreen is coming (hope soon) the problems start here: about two years ago I got the ATT for California to take NCLEX but my Visa to enter US was denied, so right now I dont have a Visa to get in the US and take the exam and as you know my chances to obtain a Tourist Visa in the Embassy after that denial are minimal for next 3 years (thats why I took the CGFNS+TOEFL way). So I willl have my visascreen ...and then??

Where should I apply to take NCLEX to NY or Vermont or another state? Should I apply right now or wait some time as I have read that the NY ATT is only for 90 days!! ? consider that I need it the quickest in order to gen in US as soon as possible.

After (or before) getting the ATT what can I do to enter US (as I have no option to get a Visa), look for hospital or agencies (are them reliable)?I have family in Miami so they could help in asking for sponsor hospitals any place in US, but in one of them not sure if it was Jackson Memorial told them that I have to get the NCLEX to work for them (impossible as I do not have Visa and cannot take it in London or other city cause it is also so difficult to get a Visa)

Is it possible to get a full license in any state only with Visascreen?

thank you for your attention and Happy new year :) !!
