Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Hope that this helps................ :balloons:

Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.

IELTS or TOEFL/TSE? I really don't know which one to take. How much is IELTS? They say that TSE is hard to pass.

If you're here in the Philippines, I suggest you take IELTS because it's much cheaper than TOEFL/TSE. It costs Php8960. I received my scores for IELTS and my overall band score was 7 and received 7 for speaking. I'll just wait for my CG certificate and visa screen while I'm reviewing for NCLEX. I'm planning to take the NCLEX this March.:nurse:

Ok. Thanks for your fast reply. I don't have any questions at the moment yet. But, if i still have some inquiry i'll ask for your opinion suzzane. Thank alot!

PHILRN:

I will be taking the NCLEX on March or maybe first wk of APRIL. Do you have any idea how much is the cheapest fare to HongKong for 4days & 3 nyts stay? Are you still working? I am working right now because I think March is still too far for me to quit my job? what's your best advice for us who's going to take the NCLEX? Do i nedd to quit?

I quit my previous job as a MEDICAL TRANSCIPTIONST before I took the CG. It was really of great help because I passed the CG last July. Then. the reason I also quit was I cant really study well because of the shifting schedule.

I'm done with my IELTS and now I am waiting for my CG certificate. My current job right now is a nonshifting/ nonrotating schedule. I work 8-5 except saturday and sunday. What do you think? anyone? Pls give me advice to my situation. Thanks alot!

Specializes in Med/Surg/Med-Tele/SDU/ED.

a friend thought she could work & study for CG exam at the same time.

she flunked.

now she's regretting it.

I suggest we all study full time, especially for the month before the exam.

no sense flunking the CG or NCLEX just because we want to earn a few thousand pesos.

just a suggestion.

Cebu Pacific has a promo- Php1888 one way Manila-HK, call them, I don't think it's available on line. I checked their website and the promo is not there. As for the hotel, check out http://www.asiarooms.com.

I think you should take time off from your work to concentrate on your review. Medyo mahal ang mga tests, dollars pa ang bayad.:uhoh3:

I agree. Just took the NCLEX in HK this dec. and it will cost you a lot. $350 for registration and scheduling plus +/- $400 for airfare and hotel room for 2 nights. I booked everything myself.

Those taking the NCLEX next year are lucky because of the budget fare from cebu pacific. Ofcourse you don't expect that it includes a meal. It's just a 2 hr flight and you can eat fastfood at the HK airport.

Nevertheless its still expensive and you don't want repeating it because we can't afford to (figuratively and literally).

Here's also a good link http://www.hkha.com.hk if you want to book to the hotels directly.

My preference for hotels there is www.asiahotels.com. Have used them many times for all over Asia and there prices are quite good.

holiday greetings to everyone!

i am a Filipina nurse and an immigrant visa petition has been filed on my behalf. We are expecting that my interview be scheduled early next year, and hoping to leave by the first quarter of 2006.

my transcript has been sent to BON California by my school last month. my husband is in California so I plan to take the exam there.

Now my questions:

1. I am planning to send my application this week (that includes: a) the Application from from the california website, b) the finger print card, and c)the bank draft for the necessary fees)... am i still missing out on something?

2. do u suggest that I apply for an Interim Permit? I wish to work while waiting for the exam sched and the results, but do u think it is a good idea?

3. I am still having second thoughts whether or not to go for the fingerprint card. Shoud I go for Live Scan instead? Which method can get me to take the exam sooner?

4. If I send in my application while still here in the Philippines, how long would it take me to wait before I can finally take the exam? How about the time from getting to California until I get an approval to take the exam?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The processing time for the Eligibility letter for CA is 4-6 months.

I suggest you wait for your letter before going to CA, therefore you haveno choice but the manual fingerprint card.

Most legitimate facilities will not hire a foreign grad without them having passed NCLEX. They want to know that you can pass it before they begin training you. Live Scan cannot be done until you are actually in the US. I would go ahead with the fingerprint card now.

California takes on average four to six months before you will get approval. If your goal is to get your exam done as quickly as possible and you do not have to deal with any CGFNS things, I suggest that you go the route of Vermont and then just endorse to CA. It will be the fastest for you. CA takes the longest.

but my immigrant petition is pending, and we're expecting for my interview date to be early next year...

quick question: do i have to use both fingerprint cards they sent me? or will just one do? thanks!

Do you know when will you actually be given the green card and leave for the US? You should confirm this 1st. If your sure your going to get it and go to the US as a green card holder in less than 6 mos. then maybe that is the best route but if it's more than 6 mos. then applying from here would be best.

I also agree with Suzanne about applying in Vermont then endorsing to CA.

CA and Vermont will evaluate your transcripts w/o going thru any services of CGFNS but Vermont will be faster since there are more applicants being processed for CA plus the fact that you'll get your license # right away unlike in CA where they won't give you your license # unless you already have a SSN.

Best of luck. :wink2:
