Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Hope that this helps................ :balloons:

Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.

That may be all that they require, but if there are any issues with that one set, you will be waiting months. It is worth it to get that extra set done, or it can take you a year or so to get your ATT. Especially if there is an issue with one print. And CA doesn't notify you, so after waiting your four or five months jsut to be told that there was an issue with a set of fingerprints doesn't make any sense to me.

Your choice. My recommendation.

Yes, I agree that having another one will be better and before we always request for 2 cards via email and they will send in 2. I just don't know if this is still possible to those who are still going go to request because the updated website seem to be screening already that if its an exam applicant you only get 1 and if an endorsement applicant you get 2.

Doesn't hurt to request for 2 anyway. :)

hi! do you know how long it takes to apply to the BON of illinois? ty

hi! do you know how long it takes to apply to the BON of illinois? ty

Sorry, but most of I know did'nt apply for Illinois and have'nt heard of anyone yet getting their ATT ever since their change of requirements in July. :o

You no longer need the CGFNS exam, but you still need to have your credentials verified by CGFNS for the CES, so you are looking at about four months before you will get approval to sit for the NCLEX exam. You need the CES report before they will even consider your application in Illinois.

Hi,

now I am more confused. But i will follow ms. suzanne's suggestion, I will go for NY. I have just one question that I haven't found the answer. If I am processing my VISASCREEN and i have a tourist visa and i planned to fly to new york or any state,- let's say to get used to the area/environment or other reasons-will I encounter any problems with the immigration? will i be questioned regarding tourist visa and plans to migrate?

thanks!!

I would not come to the US on a tourist visa with 8 suitcases and a bunch of nursing books in your suitcases. That would be a major red flag to someone. Immigration has the right to ask you what you will be doing in the US, sometimes they will and sometimes they won't.

Ms. Suzanne,

Thanks for the prompt reply. That was fast!!!! (also for the PM)

Anyway, too bad I can't bring my books:crying2:

Here's the follow up question to Ms, Suzanne and to the rest who have undergone the same problem:

(1)IELTS or TOEFL/TSE? I really don't know which one to take. How much is IELTS? They say that TSE is hard to pass.

(2) VISA SCREEN- will i be interviewed at the US embassy? Scares me.

(3) I was told just now by a friend that I should not bring with me any papers related to work or plans such as diplomas, permit for exam, etc or risk being deported if found to have this. Is this true? If so what shall I tell the officer?

(4)Does the eligibility to test from NY has an expiration date like ATT? And can I take NY-NCLEX in testing stations at california or other stares aside from NY?

(5) Clarification: Marrying before anything else would mean providing additional papers to all concerned department?

Milyong Salamat!! (Million Thanks)

Visa Screen Certificate is only a document granted thru CGFNS. It is required of all nurses who wish to get their green card under their own name.

For nurses that are from the Philippines, I highly recommend the IELTS series as you get to speak to a human for the speakin gpart and not a machine.

You may take the exam where ever you wish, in any state.

If you marry before, then their application is included with thiers and they are grated a green card, if you are granted a green card, provided that they meet all of the immigration requirements as well. If you chose to mary once you are over in the US, you will have to go thru many other procedures..fastest is to do it before you start the immigration procedure.

And from my experience, I still recommend that you take the NCLEX before you even come to the US, and pass it. To do it your way, then not pass it, it will change all of your plans and cause you much grief.

Being in a hurry to get things done will only backfire on you. You need to graduate from your program and get a completed set of transcripts to submit first, before any other plans should be started. I would concentrate on graduating first, then get your English exams done. Take things one day at a time.

I totally agree with what all Suzanne said. I know lots of people who did this and its backfiring on them alright. They're actually delayed now instead and causes a domino effect (for the worse).:)

To Ms. SUzanne & Mr. lawrence01,

Thanks a million for everything!! Everything is clear. And I can stop worrying (a little) now. :)

Truly God's gift to us!

Suzanne, I passed the CGFNS exam and i have my CG certificate with me already and my visa screen. My question is do i need to apply for the CREDENTIAL EVALUATION SERVICE? what is the purpose of this? Does CGFNS passers need to apply for this service?

MANY THANKS.... MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

Same states require it, but since you took the CGFNS exam and passed that, you should be just fine. I would not worry about it uness your state is specifically asking for it. Soem states are using that now in place of the actual CGFNS exam.
