Hello..I just want you to share my situation right now. I just graduated my BSN from the philippines this april 2011. i am already here in ontario as an immigrant. Currently I am just waiting for my credentials to be sent to me from the philippines as some of it should be passed along with the application forms which I requested from CNO. I'm having a hard time thinking of what position to apply for my asessment: RN or RPN? I'm worried that if I apply for RN they will not recognize my BSN and tell me to study from the start all over again as I dont have my philippine nursing license..so Im planning to apply for RPN. which is better..?
and will the CNO require me of philippine nursing license? i'd still don't know what to do next- do I still need to take the local NLE?
Some people tell me I don't need it while may aunt in the US told me that I need it to have NCLEX someday and work there??.
I'll appreciate all your comments regarding this.thank you so much.:)

no i haven't submitted any documents yet. i haven't requested a package either. on the second thought, maybe i'm not yet qualified because i only have had 8 months hospital experience and it is volunteer experience. i'm just familiarizing the process, just in case. someone also told me, nursing jobs in ontario is really scarce, and if there is, they prefer canadians. so i don't really know where to move from here, i'm also reading about new zealand and australia registration. any advise? i really need a paying job, i can't seem to find it in my own country (sadly).
It's very hard for anybody to find nursing jobs in Ontario right now. Two of my co-workers are moving to Ontario soon due to their spouses being transferred there with their government careers. One of them has a (Canadian) Master's degree in nursing and has worked as a nurse practitioner for years. The other is a native Ontarian with 5 years of critical care experience and is a member of our physician-less pediatric transport team. Neither one of them has found work in Ontario.
As has been stated frequently in this forum, volunteer experience does not count in any way for initial registration in Canada. It also isn't highly regarded when screening applicants for employment.
well please dont mind anybody.
but i have seen few comments in this site pretty discouraging. As if some people dont want IEN's to come to Canada.
I dont know may be that's my perception.
Not to forget, I have received a lot of help regarding various procedures from this site as well. So thanks to all for sharing your comment and helping us.
It is not a case of not wanting IEN to come to Canada but depending on which province will depend on what the job situation is like. Most appear to want Alberta and Ontario and if you look jobs are harder to get there as many local nurses already there, plus take into account 2010 immigration set target to 1000 applicants for PR via FSW route for RN the following year it had been reduced to 500 applicants due to demand not as high

Come on down to Aus, we don't have a registration exam and AHPRA is a national organization so you don't have to register state by state like Canada and US.

It's not that anyone means to be discouraging.People are just being honest. Jobs are scarce. It is difficult and time consuming to apply as an IEN.These are just the facts.
Hello!
I graduated on April 2011, got my license on the same year, started to work in the hospital on January 2012 and I just hired to be a staff nurse after months ago.
I requested the cno application package through email and I just received the forms on June 6, 2012 and I am not doing anything further from that yet because I dont know how to start, please help me.
Here are my questions:
1. Payment form: I'm going to use my friend's credit card to pay, by her signing the payment form and put the details. How will I know if the cno received the payment?
2. I read some things about the B forms, how will I know if the forms are B if they are not categorized as B forms? I have a form to be sent to the nursing school but I dont have a form to be sent to my employer..how am I going to have that form, requesting information from my current enployer? And also a form requesting the local regulatory board to send info to cno? I just only have forms to be sent to school.
3. There is one question asking me if I have any immigration status.. I dont have one.. I dont
have study permit yet because I dont have letter of direction from cno trlling me to take bridging program yet or work permit, too. If i will say No there, will I be failed in the assessment? My plan is if i will pass the assessment and qualified that's the time I am going to apply for temporary resident visa to take the exam. If i will be needing bridging program thats the time i will apply for study permit. So is it okay to say no in that question?
Thank you for your detailed answer, in advance!:)
Hi. I already received a RN assessment package from CNO but I haven't send the application forms to them yet. I am planning to have myself assess for RPN too.
Please enlighten me on some things...
1. Can I be assessed to be RN and RPN at the same time just using one Application for a Certificate of Registration in the General Class? Then I would just include two payment information forms, payment for the RN and RPN assessment package.
2. What about the Verification of Course Completion and Transcript Request forms, can I just submit one only for both assessment?
If I am an nclex passer can I apply a reciprocity to be RPN in Ontario?

hey bax RN
CNO now a days give you a time limit of 20 weeks or 5 months to wait after submitting your application.
The time duration although varies candidate to candidate. And after giving your CRNE exam results are out 6 weeks later and if you pass the exam then again it will take 15 more days to get your complete registration from CNO.
Have you submitted your documents??
