Questioning Zohran Mamdani

Published

Does Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani know how to legislate, or is he just riding the coattails of others while claiming the glory? The primary function of the New York State Legislature is to make laws. Article III of the State Constitution vests the legislative power of the State in the Senate and Assembly. The Legislature has nearly total control of the legislative process and is fully responsible for its proceedings.

When asked about his legislative achievements, Mamdani's response was disappointing. He could not provide any concrete examples of laws he had personally created to cut "red tape" for small businesses. He co-sponsored a bill that was authored and introduced by Assemblymember Catalina Cruz, not him. This stark contrast between his claims and his actual legislative record raises serious questions about his leadership. This is not leadership; it is political grandstanding. It is the classic move of someone eager to take the credit without doing the work, like that coworker who swoops in at the end of a project to slap their name on it.

What tangible changes has Mamdani brought about during his time in office that have significantly improved the lives of New Yorkers, particularly those in Queens, NY? This is a question that needs to be asked and answered.

I'm not sure what you're saying here.

I'm sorry they have to pay a co-pay for healthcare, but that's the norm for some of us as well.   I just paid $750 out of pocket for a prolonged illness and I have insurance and the bills are still coming in.   I feel for them on fixed incomes and going from no copays to paying copays.  Healthcare shouldn't be a burden but be universal.  That can exist with capitalism and democracy.  Check with Europe and Canada on that one.

Let us not ignore the real issues facing everyday people in NYC. The problem lies in the hypocrisy of Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani promising things like "free" grocery stores, "free" housing, and even "free" transportation, rather than putting forward serious plans to resolve the housing crisis or improve affordable transit. Instead of solving problems, Mamdani is neglecting the needs of the elderly population, especially in the very district he was elected to represent. What New Yorkers truly need are real investments in infrastructure, an improved subway system, safer highways, better-maintained streets, and genuinely affordable housing, rather than having their homes taken by the Mamdami's Marxist communism plan.

Hold on! Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani has openly proposed the abolition of private property, a concept directly from Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto. This is not a matter to be taken lightly. What is truly astonishing is the media's silence on this issue. Mamdani is forthright about his beliefs and values, and so should the people of this nation be. They have a right to the truth, and the media has a duty to ensure it.

The media isn't very good at telling the people the truth about politics and politicians.  That was pretty clear in the election cycles from 2016 to present. One media company, famously, had to pay a huge defamation settlement for directly lying to the public about election related issues.  They have no more obligation to warn people of this alleged Marxism anymore than they were obligated to warn of Trump's alleged fascism.

I was agreeing with you until your last sentence.  You're entitled to see things as you will but I am ignoring you and this thread moving forward.

Youve made some good points.

And, you could make a case that putting grocery stores out of business by having govt run stores falls under "taking private property".

But, in no way is taking people's homes a reasonable argument to make. For a thousand reasons, it'll never happen.

It's as crazy as the "Trump is a dictator" narrative.

Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher famously said, "The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.” What happens to the working class in NYC under Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani's socialist platform? What happens to elderly pensions will determine whether seniors will genuinely be able to age in place, or will they be left behind? A  question no one seems to ask: why has Mamdani never created any meaningful legislation to address these issues, potentially leading to dire consequences?

Whose job is it to report the news? What happened to journalistic ethics? How can anyone make an informed decision when they're only being presented with a selective angle on a politician, while the truth about what Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani actually stands for is ignored? He cites the Oregon study to justify defunding the police, yet the people of Oregon themselves have called it a massive failure.

I am disappointed that you do not think people in NYC deserve real investments in infrastructure, an improved subway system, safer highways, better-maintained streets, and genuinely affordable housing. Instead, Mamdani's Marxist-communist plan threatens to take away these necessities. Every American deserves this opportunity, but I am speaking specifically about the NYC election. It is disheartening to see politicians like Mayor Eric Adams and community activist Curtis Sliwa prioritize their own ambitions over the well-being of NYC. They need to step aside and give New Yorkers a chance to thrive.

Gas lighting people doesn't help your passionate arguments against this candidate.

Why do you think that journalistic standards have deteriorated over time?  Are there some journalists and publications that you trust more than others?

There was no attempt to gaslight anyone. The real issue is the lack of journalistic ethics and integrity. Instead of reporting the news, asking hard-pressing questions, or clarifying positions in real time, journalists are often prevented or unwilling to do so. Too often, they choose to write books months or even years later about the problem, rather than addressing it when it matters most. For example, a breakdown on Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani's position

1- Not one journalist is asking about his understanding of the FRESH program. He spent almost five years as an Assemblymember and does not know the name of the program or how it is funded.

2- Not one journalist is asking how he will pay for the "free bus ride" proposal? Who is paying? Will the tax go up?

3- I can not believe I find myself agreeing with Trump
(any Trump) , but New York City truly deserves common sense. It is time for Mayor Eric Adams and Curtis Sliwa to step aside. Only then can NYC have a real fighting chance.

Yeah, suggesting that Tweety doesn't think that NY deserves this or that, because he disagrees with your assessment of beliefs  is gas lighting.  You are arguing something that he didn't say or claim.

I would argue that NYC already has a "real fighting chance." The city is consistently ranked among the best cities in the world.

My comments were never an attempt to gaslight anyone. Gaslighting means manipulating someone into questioning their own sanity or reasoning, and that is not what I am doing. My goal is to highlight the stark contrast between Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani's lofty promises and his actual lack of meaningful results for the people of New York City. Instead of building his own record, he has often aligned himself with the achievements of other Assembly members and elected officials, while remaining largely unavailable to the very community he represents.
Moreover, his platform includes proposals such as "free" buses and "free" grocery stores, as well as defunding the police, which may sound appealing but are unrealistic and potentially harmful. These promises create false hope without offering sustainable solutions for NYC residents. New Yorkers need solutions that can stand the test of time, not just sound good on paper or amount to false promises.
I never imagined I would find myself agreeing with anything said by Trump or his supporters, but at least they can sometimes look beyond party lines to prioritize what is best for New York City. Despite its challenges, NYC remains one of the greatest cities in the world, and it deserves real leadership, not empty promises. This proves one thing: we can unite and defeat Assemblymember and Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani.
Right now, New Yorkers must rally behind a candidate with a real chance to win and lead effectively. Mayor Eric Adams is polling too low to remain a candidate, and activist Curtis Sliwa risks becoming a spoiler. A split vote would only pave the way for Mamdani to win, which would not serve the best interests of NYC. Voters must act strategically, set aside divisions, and unite to ensure the best leadership for our city.

You don't think you were gas lighting but you were definitely assigning things to him that belong to you... not him.

NYC is not experiencing an existential threat because a socialist is running for office.  The entire country is experiencing that existential threat because of Trump and his merry band of miscreants.
