Question about the TEAS (nervous)

Hi all, I have to take the TEAS exam tomorrow, and I was wondering if anyone knows if it's better to skip a question I don't know or should I try to guess?

I didn't know if it would affect the scoring since some tests don't count unanswered questions against the total score.

Also, do I need to bring paper and pencil or are those supplied once you get there?

Sheesh...I'm almost 40 years old and I'm a nervous wreck over this test!!

Any suggestions or personal experience about the test would be greatly appreciated, highly adored, and make you my new best friends. :bowingpur

Just bring a pencil, they do not allow paper (you have to write in the margines). Leaving a question blank is the same as getting it wrong, so at least make a good guess. You will find that the time flies by: do not spend any significant amount of time on a question if you get stuck, move on and come back to it, but leave yourself enough time to come back to these...even if it means giving yourself time to go back and make good guesses.....take a watch with you; do not rely on the proctors to tell you ...they do tell you when you have 5 mins left bu that is like nothing!

How is your school scoring you? We only had to have 75% to get full points, anything lower got less points, but I do not remember what they were because I got full points.

P.S. Good luck!

Ah, thank you! I figured it was probably something like that because I remember one girl telling me that she thinks she did poorly on the test because she ran out of time on the math and hadn't answered a lot of the questions.

I don't have a watch, but this might be one of those rare occasions worth investing in one!

The college I'm trying to get into uses the TEAS as 20% of the points toward getting into the program. Our GPAs are what are relied on the most, so I'm not sweating this TOO much, but I know the girls I'm friends with got 84-87 on the test.

I have taken two practice tests so far from ATI and I'm getting in the high 70s (I am NOT good at physical science).

I've also been told that the Nursing department looks at your English grade the most and science second. They average it out somehow.

I really am a nervous wreck about this!

Get the watch, you will have to have one for nursing school anyways. My school looked at science more, since that is the bulk of your pre-reqs. If your school is competitive then every point counts. They are not going to care how well you did in physical science...no one in nursing has to know the different layers of the earth or how rain is formed...:lol2: but those are some of the questions on TEAS (hint hint!)

Yeah, I have never been a big watch-wearer, but I know I need to get one soon anyway.

That's exactly what I was thinking...why do I need to know about how long it would take for the sound of lightning to hit my ears to be a nurse?!!

I have one more quick question....when you do the reading comprehension, are the questions visible at the same time or do you have to read the passage and then answer questions? If the latter is true, can you go back and look at the paragraphs again or are you just supposed to remember all of it?

Of all the tests to worry about, this is not the one. I was forced to travel a few hours away to take it at a university since the univ that I was at didn't offer it. I had to take it in the summer before taking most of my pre reqs and I did fine. I didn't even know what to expect. I figured for 30 bucks I could take it, see whats it's about and take it again to improve my grade. There ended up being no need. Just relax, you'll be fine.

Hey Delaina, I'm right there with you. I take the TEAS on 4/25 next Friday. I have been studying since December. I am 50 years old and a new LVN hopefully getting into the bridge program in June if I pass this darn test. I only scored 69% on my online TEAS. Our college only requires 67% overall score to pass. But I am worried. I like you did poor on the science. There was one anatomy question. Mostly rock science and physics which I don't see what a nurse needs to know those tings for. I am studying up till the end and plan to take the online test again and see how I do. However, it's the same test so you know you will do better as you can remember the answers. I'm hoping I will score higher on the actual test since it is 170 questions and the online was only 100 questions. Good luck to you. I hope I can pass it too. I don't have any time to waste I need to get my RN as I will turn 51 this summer. I have a 23 year old daughter who is also an RN but she did not have to take the TEAS (lucky). Good luck and don't stress.

the version I took was on paper so yes you could look ahead

I took mines and did fine. Don't over do with buying the book and discussing the test. It will only get up ruffled, and confused.

**** Remember the answers are in the question, especially science. :)

If you take the test on the computer, does it tell you right after you submit an answer if you were right or wrong? Or do you have to wait until the end of the test to know your score?

Oh, the actual test is only 170 questions? That's not too bad!

I just took the TEAS test today and I got a 72%. The school only required a 60 so I think I did better. The best thing I can tell you is really get to know the book. I did the practice tests and I thought they were a great reflection of the real test. I thought the science was difficult but just relax!!
