Well...it all depends on what type of work you want to do. You can always start at the CNA level to see how you like the idea, and then move on to nursing school. You will have to look at cost and length of program. There are LPN's and RN's that work in the office setting...Your degree does not shield you from vomit, unfortunately!!

mbelle, welcome to the boards. There are a lot more considerations in deciding what kind of degree and licensure to get, including time and finances. If you have the time and money to do so, I'd definitely recommend going straight for your RN. If you're not sure, remember you can always get your LPN first and then decide whether or not to go back to school.

There are lots of threads asking this same question, so poke around in some of the different forums like LPN Corner, Student Nursing, Would You Recommend Nursing As a Career?, and Physician Office Nursing. Reading some of those threads might give you a better picture of the issues involved and help you make up your mind.

And yeah, I hate vomit too, but trust me, you're going to see some as a nurse, period. Can't get away from it. :)

If you ever have kids or pets, you'll get exposed to vomit and other lovely things. :) Might as well get used to it now!

You can also look into becoming a medical assistant if you just want to work in the doc's office...

Thanks for the welcome and advice. I have a cat and a 2 1/2 year old. I gag and almost throw up every time my cat pukes...I've have been lucky so far, my son has never been sick. Except for a little spit up when he was an infant. I have thought about medical assistant, but I don't think the pay would be enough. I just don't want to start out and then not make it. Oh well, thanks again.
