Question regarding NCLEX

Published

I'm a little confused, and I know someone can help.. :) It's pretty simple..

On the NCLEX, is there not a set amount of questions for everyone?? I was talking to someone that had told me she had to do 200+ questions, but her friend only ended up doing 70 something.... Just curious as to what this is all about and if its true..

it is true..it is a computerized test and the computer will shut off on a diff amount of questions for everyone...my profs say that it doesnt necc make a diff how many questions you get..some people pass at 75 and some fail at 75...some fail at 200 some pass at 200...etc...im not sure what makes the computer shut off at a certain number....?

what I do know is that the questions are graded...so if you get the first question right then the second question will be harder, if you get the first question wrong then you will get an easier question after that...if you get the easier question right then they will give you a harder one...

Hmm.. kind of weird, but hopefully if I study hard enough, they'll give me the 75 questions and I'd ace it.. lol I'm going to study my butt off!! :) But of course, 200 is 200 and I'll have to just ace that sucker too.. lol thanks for the help!

You will actually get anywhere between 75 and 265 questions. 15 are test questions and you will have no idea which ones they are.

See the sticky at the top of this forum - it explains the computerized adaptive test. Good info also at www.ncsbn.org (the national council of state boards of nursing, which develops the test plan and passing standards) and www.pearsonvue.com (PearsonVue - the private testing company which is contracted with the state board of nursing in all 50 states to administer NCLEX).
