I was wondering how far some of you travel to work and back daily. I live in fairly rural area and I now drive 36 miles round trip for work. I am thinking about taking a job in a larger city farther away. I would be travelling about 80 miles round trip for this job. The hours and days are appealing to me and so is the work. (Pre-op for cardiac caths and such). My husband is kind of concerned about the drive, especially in the winter. Some of the driving is country highway, the rest pretty much interstate. I am just trying to see what the pros and cons are of driving somewhat a distance to work. Thanks.
much like ursula....... i live about 300' from work. but do i walk? no, no, no! that would be too healthy of an activity & besides where would i leave my purse???? sometimes, for lunch i drive & sing to the radio for 10 min to anywhere & 10 minutes back to hello.......lunch goes fast & it's my favorite part of the day! dharma:cool:
Hi....I travel 30 miles to work each way, and about 29 miles of it are highway miles. It's really not too bad, I drive pretty fast, and make it in about 25 minutes. Also, I only work 3 days a week thanks to my 12 hour shifts, and I'm also driving against Boston traffic since I work in NH, so I've got it pretty easy! I've had to drive in the snow, that's the only really nerve-racking part.....just have to go really slow. Once I even brought some clothes to work because I knew it would snow pretty hard and just spent the night at work. Good luck if you take the new job!! :)
My full time job is about 8 miles or 15 minutes from home to work. When I go to the other prison and work it is 25 miles and about 35 minutes to get there. I do hate working night shifts over there though......I have missed hitting the back of semi-trucks many times when I use to work nights all the time...not even singing in my car would stop me from falling asleep...
I travel 84 miles one way. Just started this new job 4 weeks ago. The last job that I had for the past 15 years was only 5.8 miles away. That's why I endured it for so long. Decided after the first week on the new job that I could not drive back and forth daily after my 12 hour midnoc shift so am staying in a motel for two days then coming home after the third shift. I think that will work out better for me.

15 minutes for my full time job. (What a luxury after living in L.A., SanFrancisco, and Honolul!). My on call job is 40 minutes away. But, my favorite job is the consulting job I do in my home!
Keeping awake....keep the car cool...as cool as possible, put the favorite music on loud enough to sing with it, and have diet soda on the side to pump in!
