I was wondering how far some of you travel to work and back daily. I live in fairly rural area and I now drive 36 miles round trip for work. I am thinking about taking a job in a larger city farther away. I would be travelling about 80 miles round trip for this job. The hours and days are appealing to me and so is the work. (Pre-op for cardiac caths and such). My husband is kind of concerned about the drive, especially in the winter. Some of the driving is country highway, the rest pretty much interstate. I am just trying to see what the pros and cons are of driving somewhat a distance to work. Thanks.

30 minutes doing the speed limit of 65, 20 minutes doing 80.
Would take me over an hour if I worked day shift d/t traffic.
Bless those wings...have a pair myself!
I think I can do it in 20minutes at the rate of 80 mph. My husband gets pissed tho'. He didn't know about my rate of speed until I passed him one day doing 84, not paying attention of course, blew right passed him. I had to hear about it forever!
dees, like you I have looked at a change that would take 60-90 minutes of driving vrs. the 10 I do now.
All you 60 min. plus drivers, any have any problem staying awake? Ever regret having to do the drive? I'm afraid I'll end up in a ditch!
Have also thought about working the 3 in a row and staying in a hotel. Anyone do this?

:roll :roll HaHaHa!
My current drive is about 32 miles, taking about 35 minutes , one way. If I make the same drive at a busier time of day, it can take 45-55 minutes. When weather is bad, it can take even longer. A few years back, I worked about 80 miles from my home, I did the 3 days in a row, stay in town thing, so I didn't have to drive all the time. (That drive was in heavy traffic and could take 2 hours or more one way.) But the facility started to cut staffing, and it was a real pain to have my shift cancelled after I was already in town. Sometimes the census would go down after I started my shift and I'd get sent "home" after 4 hours. Never knew whether to stay in town and expect to work the next day, or go home and take my chances. It got to be too much of a hassle after awhile.
I don't know how yall 30+ milers a day do it. It would be tough for me to sit still for so long, especially after work. I planned my life so that everything I need to do is within bicycle shot.
I'll even go as far to say that if I was forced to ride a car everyday, that I probably would hafta be on some kind of med to help me deal with that.
When I start nursing school, its gonna be a challenge to make the one hour bike ride to school. At this time, I am planning to bike during good weather, which is abundant in Portland.
Deep down, I would like to see the stars at night, which I can not see because of the lights where I live. Excuse my silly mood here :-)
today, no time at all.....
day off.....yee hah!!!!!
k' when I do work......across the river I must go.......
it depends which bridge I take........in town or the interstate.......
30 minutes gets me there for real...........
if not before.....
without my heavy foot.........
or cop car behind me.........
but not to test the theory again until Monday, my friends.........
micro has flipped out again.........
