Years ago, when I was new to the ER in our little community hospital, a patient came in via husbands truck having a "full blown granmal seizure". Took four nurses to get her out of the truck and when we laid her on the gurney she kicked me in the chest. I wasn't too upset, seeing as she was having a seizure. I called the doc on call and told him who and what it was and he said "she's faking". I said, "no she's not". He said, "yes she is". I said "she better not be, she kicked me in the chest". He then laughed and said "she also always has head lice when she comes in". OMG, she was throwing her head all over us during her "seizure activity". Doc comes in, makes big deal out of giving her this new miracle drug for seizures that stops them immediately but that it burns a bit, He personally gives her an injection of normal saline in the old gluteal and she immediately stops seizure. She was faking. I was mad. She could have really hurt me when she kicked me and what about our back getting her "seizing" body out of that truck.

HazeK. Right on post. That's what we should all be doing and not doing as patient advocates. If the patient's safety if effected than the nurse must be a tattletale. Do you really have a door marked for MD use only? What's that all about.

No money in health care to give nurses raises, or to have the equipment that we need to take care of our patients but money to pay these kinds of wages to CEO's and the severence pay of 5 million. Who cares if they got fired with a severence package like that?

Not all nurses are like that. Just remember how they were with you and concentrate on never being that way. Be the example to them.

Wow Strawberry! I don't ever want that drug given to me IV. Too many side effects that are severe for my way of thinking. Thanks for the list.

I travel 84 miles one way. Just started this new job 4 weeks ago. The last job that I had for the past 15 years was only 5.8 miles away. That's why I endured it for so long. Decided after the first week on the new job that I could not drive back and forth daily after my 12 hour midnoc shift so am staying in a motel for two days then coming home after the third shift. I think that will work out better for me.

Many years ago, I had a 10 year old patient in the hospital who was on Reglan IV. I went into his room and he was making all types of weird gestures with his hands, arms and face. At first I thought he was a 10 year old goofing off but it soon became apparent that he could not help what he was doing. We dc'd the Reglan and in an hour or two he was fine. I've been cautious with the stuff and watch the patients carefully ever since this.

Well, I got 24 out of 25 so guess my age is telling. I don't know what the Butch Wax is. Someone fill me in. Drive Inn movies were wonderful for the teenagers except we called them something else back then. Hi Annie.
