The PVT works if it is done correctly. Typically, those who declare 'it didn't work for me' didn't actually do it right, so.....there you have it.

Twenty-four hours after completion of your exam is the time to do the PVT. Not an hour after, not 15 hours after. It's 24 hours after. By then, your exam will have been scored two times; ALL EXAMS are scored two times.

If you did it too early, after only one score is complete, and you are able to pay $$ for another test, all you know is you failed the first scoring. If your second scoring is ALSO a fail, well, no harm done as you'd have to pay for another test anyway.

However, if your first score was a fail (and you paid) and your SECOND score was a PASS, you will have blown $200 foolishly. This is why we keep telling people to just WAIT 24 HOURS and then do this silly trick!

If I'm understanding what you wrote correctly, you did the PVT 43 hours after your test ("5 hours shy of 48 hours"...?). If that's the case, and you paid for another test at the 43-hour mark.....yes, you failed.

If you did the PVT prior to 24 hours' passing, and you paid, you won't know anything either way until you get official results now.

I simply don't understand this focus you have on ACTUALLY PAYING and foolishly wasting money.... THERE IS NO NEED TO ACTUALLY MAKE THE PAYMENT TO DO THE PVT!!!!

The only thing you need to know is if it will give you the screen where you enter your credit card information -- you don't have to actually enter the information.

If you've passed, the website WILL NOT give you the payment screen at all -- you get the pop-up message that says you're already scheduled for the test, and you never have anyplace where you can enter your payment information.

If you've failed, the website WILL give you the payment screen, but you don't have to actually enter payment info and cough up the retest fee right at that time in order to know anything.

The "trick" is not if it takes your money or not -- the trick is whether or not it even gives you the screen where you enter your payment information in the first place.

That's the way the "trick" used to work - if you passed, you didn't get the payment screen. Pearson Vue has apparently since changed how this works and now EVERYONE gets the payment screen. One must now enter CC info in order to either get the "good pop-up" or be charged because they did not pass.

From first-hand experience, for those of us in my cohort that tried the trick (myself included), if we got the good pop-up we passed, if we were charged again it was because we failed. Members of my cohort began taking the NCLEX-RN in Sept 2014.

Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit, I stand corrected.

just an update, i tried pvt about 2 hours after my exam on 1/23 and it let me register. Unfortunately I did not pass the NCLEX with 12 SATA and 84 questions.

I did the PVT trick before and after the 24 hour mark several times and got the good pop up. Found out yesterday I passed! It worked for me.

LOL, I'll save the buttering of your butt for someone else, but I'm glad Vanilla saved me the trouble of the explanation that was in order! ;)

It works for everyone, it just isn't 100% reliable for anyone. In your case, by doing the PVT prior to 24 hours, you knew that your first score was a pass, that's all. After 24 hours had gone by, you found out your second score was also a pass.

I still don't know why people say "it works right after you take the test" when all they know is what the FIRST score is at that time? Or are there really that many people that don't know how the NCLEX is actually scored? I'm guessing it's got to be the latter....

You PAID for another exam, that was the $200 fee. I'm curious as to what you thought it was for, if not another exam?
