did the pvt trick

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

im posting because im 5hrs shy of the 48hrs waiting period to get the the quick results I took my test, RN nclex on 1/21/15, I did the PVT trick it let me register and pay; however i'm praying to God that the trick is false so that either way it can ease the minds of those waiting, by chance I did pass I will be taking donations on behalf of being the idiot who didn't trust God, but a computer and a trick....im so nervous being crying since I did this so call trick, I also had only had 80 something questions before the computer shut off

Ok I apologize for doing this because I've read basically everything and from what I understand I'm doing this right BUT I have a position in a nurse residency and I'm basically dry heaving imagining calling them to tell them I failed.

I took the NCLEX 1/22. I knew the trick existed but didn't know much about it so I tried it way too soon. I got the "good" pop up but after researching extensively (thank you RNsRWe!) I did it again today to make sure it hadn't changed. At this point it has been 30 hours since I walked out of the exam and I am still getting the "good" pop up. Is it fairly safe to say I passed??

I realize that it must be annoying to have every graduate in the world post this but I would so appreciate someone answering me because knowing I have this job and imagining losing it is torture!

If what you saw after a full 24 hours has passed indicates that you CANNOT register for another exam....yes, you passed :)

The trouble comes in when someone does the trick too early, and finds that a charge has been made. They now have paid for a new registration, but CAN'T know if the second scoring is a pass until they get official notification (and if they failed, so be it, they'd have to pay anyway). The 'trick' is only as good as the person doing it, so....there have been issues ;)

In your case, 30 hours after completion, and you CANNOT buy another exam.....you're good :D

yes that's what I was saying, I still haven't heard anything yet

If you already paid for another registration before 24 hours has passed, the 'trick' is useless to you. At this point, you will need to wait for official notification that you failed (after the second score is done) and either you'll be sad to see that you did, indeed, fail, or happy to see that you passed---but will be out $200.

So now, nothing you can do but wait it out, sorry.......hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst :(

Thank you! I really appreciate your taking the time to reply. I'd imagine that answering these constantly can get a little tiring but I feel SO much better!

My pleasure to help :)

Honestly, I'd rather say the same thing ten times to ten different people who DID take the time to try to figure this thing out, than say it even ONCE to someone who declares they haven't given it a moment's thought and could I please type out the specific details needed. And then wonder why I won't!

At any rate, it's a premature congratulations, but it looks VERY good for you; don't pack in that residency yet :D

Ok this did not post last time I tried so bear with me if it now posts twice...

I can't describe how reassuring it is, both to hear that I will hopefully keep my job, and just to have someone to talk to! My parents, bless them, keep saying, "Of course you passed!" Not of course! It's a HARD exam. And when people have asked how it "felt" I really have no idea what to say. The truth is, I have completely anxiety-blacked out the entire experience. I literally remember sitting down and starting, and then raising my hand when it was over. Everything in the middle is a blur. I'm assuming I answered questions (?!) I'm truly in awe of people who can tell you how many SATA or med questions they got!

Anyway, thank you again, and good luck to all of us who are still waiting to hear!

Oh, newgrad, you have no idea how VERY normal your experience is! I also cannot understand how people can keep track of how many of which type of question they got....for me, it was more like "focus on putting one foot in front of the other" and then moving from there.

Parents especially are fond of saying "of course you passed"; they actually believe it because they are used to their kid doing well (assuming it's true, LOL) and they just "know" you passed. But (OF COURSE!) they cannot know, and their reassurances sound pretty hollow in the face of NCLEX.

Same with friends who are not nurses, are not students in a nursing program: they see that you've worked hard, you've had a tough program to get through, that you studied your butt off....so, naturally, "of course" you'll pass! Urgh. Those are the folks who truly mean well, but they have no real clue what it is you've been going through. Knowing that statistically you have an excellent chance of passing isn't all that helpful when you're sitting there thinking "yeah, but what if I'M the idiot who can't get through this danged thing?!". Right?

I remember being as well-prepared as a human being can possibly be for NCLEX. I graduated from a school with a great reputation for turning out quality nurses. The program was difficult to get into, and difficult to STAY in. So there was that. And then I took a 6-week Kaplan program, including weekly classroom appointments and an online question/test bank. Made it my job; outside of taking care of two little kids, lol, it was my job anyway.

And when I walked out of that testing center, I was shell-shocked. Had NO CLUE how I did. Actually, my clue was that I was done for: I MUST have failed, I didn't know anything for sure! It wasn't easy, it was HARD. I made my way across the parking lot, got into my car, and cried. Called my husband while driving....and crying. Pathetic.

He was the one who gave me the line of questioning I now give so many on these boards, it's gold: :) "Given the kind of student you were, how you did in school, what kind of preparation you did for this exam, is it more likely that you failed miserably in short order, or that you passed?" :)

And there you go.

I had the pleasure of taking the NCLEX-RN *3* times.

Of course I tried the 'Trick' each time.

July: one hour post exam took me to the payment screen

October: The Pearson peeps changed their system up so that us 'Tricksters' would pay for their previous convenience…I got to the CC screen but I did not have the funds to pay for the exam. I had failed.

December: two hours post exam, would not take my payment. It said I had already been scheduled for the exam. It was the same way each time I checked (x1,000!!) and then I still paid for Quick Results and I had finally passed.

**Highly recommend that NCSBN review**

Good Luck to you!

I think you're confusing two different processes: How the BoN goes about getting you a license, and what the PVT is.

The State BoN is notified immediately after BOTH sets of scores are complete. Whenever they receive this notification, the BoN can then act--either issuing a license, OR denying one. They may receive notice if the scores are done after 16 hours, or 22 hours....you get the idea.

However, since MOST BoN websites don't post this information update QUITE as quickly as you've seen, and it isn't to be expected, doing the PVT once 24 hours passes at least ensures that BOTH sets of scores are actually done. If someone does the PVT at the 12 hour mark, for instance, they may or may not be seeing the real result. But once PV submits to the BoN....it's done.

Does that help clarify it?

There is nothing that prevents the NCLEX from being scored that 2nd time prior to the 24 hour mark. However from what I've seen on this forum is that there seems to be a 24 hour limit on when the 2nd scoring needs to be done as I quite suspect that some BON's probably need to know results within 24 hours. Having your Quick Results available 48 hours later should allow for some flexibility in case they have to delay scoring, but that 48 hour QR availability is a hard deadline that is modifiable only by a "hold." Once the hold is cleared, then they'll probably score it that 2nd time and you'll know pass/fail.

I was also charged, still waiting on quick results but i was able to reregister so not expecting good news. i only got 83 questions as well

Exactly, precisely what I was saying :)

The States will receive notice immediately upon an applicant's scores being finalized, whether it's at 15 hours or 23 hours. The APPLICANT, however, if playing with the PVT, cannot know at exactly what point those scores are done! So....wait 24 full hours. No guessing.

And even if a hold is placed, the scores are still done.....just not released until the hold is lifted. The definition of 'hold' :)

What is the PVT trick?
