PVT IS DEAD! Don't try the "new" trick

Published

The PVT was never meant to happen. It was not some trick invented to give us results before the 48 hour quick results were ready, it was a computer glitch that allowed us the peace of mind of finding out early if we most likely passed. Therefore it is no surprise that PV found a way to fix it. Those of us who are already licensed got lucky. New testers are not likely to have that sort of luck.

There is a new trick circulating that basically says you can still get the good popup if you try to pay. There is a problem with this, if you put in your credit card information and it allows you to pay, there is NO REFUND if you actually passed. The PVT was never 100% accurate, and false fails were more prominent than false passes. So if you put in your CC and it takes it, there is around a 5% chance that you passed and you just paid 200$ for an inaccurate trick.

Those in states that allow quick results will have to wait 48 hours. It is 48 terrible mind numbing frightening hours, but it's worth it not to pay for a new registration. Those in states not participating in quick results, you should call your BON after 48 hours and try to re-register on the phone. They should stop you if you passed.

The trick was a sanity saver for thousands, and it is sad to see it go, but it was inevitable that it was going to eventually get fixed.

UPDATE

As of October 2016, many people are still reporting that the PVT TRICK still works.

Did you find out if you passed or not?

Let correct my statement in my experience with my friends and I is that the 5 of us that passed were not charged but the 2 friends that failed was charged. Its just a trick its not 100%. Nobody is saying its 100%. Duh that's why it's called a trick geez

I just want to clarify, you and your friends did the new trick and whoever didn't get charged passed and whoever did got charged $200 again? Do you know or remember whether the status was "taken" or "successful delivery" or did it say "result not available." Sorry for all the question, I just took my exam today and i got the good pop up, but it seems like a lot of people are getting it.

Will you please stop spreading the lies! There have now been at least two people who've come here and said that they paid $200 but later found out they passed! If you passed, it's no guarantee the system won't take your money. And it's nonrefundable, so I hope you can afford to waste $200.

Honestly....just wait 48 hours and only pay $8.

Can you please link to those two people? Quote them? Because I have read every message and none have said so. Three of my friends have taken it since the 23rd of August. They all used the same gift card with insufficient funds to try the new trick. 2 received the red triangle and the same old message on the good pop-up, the third was told she had insufficient funds on the card. The first two passed and the latter failed. It seems (albeit a small sample size) the trick still works as accurately as before, or it was a helluva coincidence, and if you use a gift card it works without any of the risks. As to the supposed ethical dilemma faced there that is up to you(although by no means more unethical than not giving a refund for services not rendered). As for the legal ramifications? That is by no means illegal, using a cc with insufficient funds never has been and never will be illegal. Hence why companies first authorize the transaction before allowing it to go through. BY NO MEANS ILLEGAL. Foolish for scaredsilly to even hint at that and make someone feel bad over it.

So in the end it still has a chance to be inaccurate, especially since they grade the test twice, hence why occasionally it was always inaccurate, and if you use a valid CC and on regrading you pass but failed initially, then you are out of $200, however before you accuse people of lying maybe you should acknowledge that you have no idea either way, since well you couldn't possibly without a larger sample size. Now for being upset enough to call pearson and tell them off, that sounds stupid, and im going to give our nurses the benefit of the doubt that no one did so.

Also for clarification, just because it says Results not available that does not mean the trick will not work, none of my friends had a results available until much later. Only time the trick will definitely not work is when it says results on hold.

Impossible to know either way until a later date. However if you look at the website, you can be sure that the purpose of the web design overhaul was by no means to solely get rid of the "trick". They completely redid the site. I also doubt they care if there is a trick as most people still verify with the quick results anyway.

So in the end, it still seems to possibly be an indicator in the same vein as before. But of course it is still wayyy too early to tell. But for those Cali and VA people who don't have quick results, it may be a way to somewhat feel at ease.

I tested today..second time and it shut off at 144. 2 hours later at home tried the pvt. Results stated unavailable..however I took my $200 and gave me a receipt. I am taking it as ai failed. I have used Hurst, Kaplan, nclex mastery, and lacharity! I don't know what else to do! :(

Please try not to stress about this too much. We have had at least three people here on at least three different forums on AllNurses who were charged and PASSED. This trick is not accurate, so please take a deep breath, and try to find some way to distract yourself until you have received official notification of your results. Hugs to you, and I wish you all the best!

Thank you monkeyhq! I am going to attempt to watch a movie with my kids....tomorrow will be a new day.

I did try and look at Pearson tonight, but their site is down.

Hugs back to you! :)

I just started reading this entire thread last night after taking my NCLEX. It has me worried now. I know that everyone in my graduating class did the trick prior to them changing it and all of them turned out right. I failed my first try at 75 questions and just took the NCLEX for the second time yesterday and it shut off at 127 questions this time around. Like every nursing student (well, almost everyone), I thought I completely bombed it (well sorta, but felt more confident than last time around at least).

A student from my class had taken the NCLEX after they changed the website and informed everyone that things had changed, so I was aware of it. But, after reading up on it, knew that I had read that you keep going after the cc screen to find out if you passed.

I raced home to try it out. I filled out my cc information (because in my head, if I failed, I'm going to have to pay for it anyhow, so might as well get it out of the way now) and ended up getting the X that said I couldn't reregister. I was so excited.

Now, after reading this entire thread...I have to say I'm more than nervous and let down. To think that I might have to do this again is devastating. :( I have done everything I can think of to keep my mind occupied since then...but I'm still going out of my mind. I did nothing but dream about being in class in nursing school last night...talk about a nightmare. :yuck:

I can't wait until the quick results are in. This is the worse possible weekend ever.

you should know by tomorrow. PLEASE keep us posted. Wish you the best and hope it did not work in your case, but either way you will be a nurse soon enough. Just please persevere if the worst case indeed occurs. I havent personally read of anyone charged that passed but others have so there is hope!

Please keep us posted, everyone I know personally that has received the red triangle has passed, and ive read tons of messages on the subject and none have not passed from what I have read. Stay positive and enjoy yourself. It is obviously not 100% until you have your license number, but you will know soon enough!

So since I live in a state that does the "unofficial results", will my 48 hours be up tomorrow (as in Sunday)? Do they include weekends in that 48 hours? Also, is it 48 hours after the actual "time" you took the test and/or completed the test? Or just some time during that day?

Not sure if they include Sunday's. I've seen them include holidays though so u never know. Honestly if u receive the red triangle u passed. Unless u failed it on regrading I'm pretty sure it's just as reliable as the old trick. Go to sleep and enjoy ur RN status. U earned it, u can brag about it at the latest Monday. :)

I just checked and it still says there are no results for the quick results.
