I recently passed the ANCC Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse certification test. I bought the review book that they recommended and studied hard for months. It was worth the effort because I passed the first time around. If anyone is thinking about doing it, I say go for it. If I can do it, anyone can.

I recently started studying for it, do you have any advice? How much do they focus on nursing theories, erikson, piaget, etc?
I'm just about done with the online review course and am thinking about buying the questions that go along with the review book.
Thanks,
Marc
I think using practice questions is a good idea. Also, if there's an audio review option, that would help too. That's what I did several years ago. Any time you can get more than one sense to engage in the learning, it helps.

i am interested to take the psych certification....when i get the moolah...any advice /steps on how to apply and prepare for the exam? congratulations and thanks in advance......
All I did to prepare for the test was to buy the review manual from ANCC. That's the best way to do it because they are the one's that offer the test. The book was a little pricey, I think I paid around eighty dollars but it provided enough information for me to pass. Of course there are many questions asked that you just can't study for, but you just wing it and rely on your gut instinct and experiences.

I sat this Board in 1995, I found it terribly difficult for only having had experience in outpatient treatment at the time, the majority of the questions were related to the inpatient unit, so I had to punt for the most part. I passed the test but felt it was quite challenging.
For you to pass the test with only out patient experience just shows how intelligent you are and the place you work now is so lucky to have you as an employee. Sure the test was difficult, but you felt the fear and did it anyway. Good for you and job well done!
