  1. Don’t worry, I was not expecting lightbulbs to ignite.
  2. The decisions to raise prices are made by those at the head of businesses and corporations. Sure they may blame the “supply chain”, but the reality is, the supply chain, taxes, or any other factor, caused them to incur losses, and raising prices is a way to either make profit or make up for losses. Many losses in profit occurred during the last 2 years. After an economic downturn coupled with a pandemic, that is what happened. We now have the highest inflation rates in 40 years. I am not claiming these correlations are absolutely the only factors, but it would be naive to not consider this considering this is how capitalism works.
  3. Crazy-Left Here: since this would never cross your mind naturally: inflation is the result of the decisions of 1% of the population — the business and corporate elite—and while the 99% endure the impact of rising prices, this tiny minority does not suffer from the economic realities they created. if awareness of basic facts of economics and holding a critical view of our capitalist system makes me crazy, then awesome.
  4. The ONLY contraindications to the vaccine are allergy related, particularly anaphylaxis or a known allergy to one of the ingredients. Other serious medical conditions do not preclude getting vaccinated. Not only that, but such patients are high priority for vaccination because if they get covid they are at very high risk of severe disease or death. This is not about being argumentative, or being right. At this late stage any misperceptions must be confronted. This is no longer the time to be doubling down on one’s beliefs with information that may very well save your loved one’s life.
  5. I wouldn’t be surprised if a visit to the AN Covid boards over the last 6 months drove the decision for this new statement…
  6. We care about the unvaccinated because we want to end the pandemic! The reason we still have a pandemic despite an effective vaccine is because there is still a large enough proportion of the population without immunity to allow the virus to perpetuate. And YES - its true that the vaxxed are spreading it too, but this will eventually decline and halt once enough of the population has immunity. The longer the virus is allowed to replicate and persist, it is more likely that a new variant will emerge that is more infectious than the current, and a higher and higher percentage is needed to reach herd immunity to end the pandemic.
  7. One word: capitalism. employers set the terms, and you have contract freedom: you are free to coply and free to leave. Enterprises under capitalism tell you what to do, when to do it, and under what conditions. As workers our locus of control absent collective action is to agree with their terms or find employment elsewhere.
  8. To the OP: what is your take on it? Surely you already have some opinion on the matter, which is why you initiated this discussion. As for me I am in support of mandates for this vaccine that are in line with the other important vaccines that we require for children in schools.
  9. Here are three people to search in you tube immediately. They are experts who are passionate about educating science. I follow them religiously. Paul Offit - My #1: The guy other experts turn to for guidance. Vincent Racaniello - Colombia Virology professor and has podcast called This week in Virology (twiv). I have learned SOO much from his content!! Gregory Poland from Mayo - excellent weekly updates If you are interested in learning and understanding the science, please check these guys out!
  10. I laughed for the entire 4 minutes I spent reading that article!
  11. I couldn’t have summarized it any clearer than that! Love this!
  12. this vaccine especially, but I am not in support of personal exemptions for vaccines in general… my example was not meant to mirror or mimick closely the situation, I was just making the point that employers must ensure that employees - in whatever way possible - are not increasing risk of harm to patients, or customers…drinking pilots is an extreme example…but unvaccinated healthcare workers and drunk pilots both pose a danger to those they are caring for.
  13. Airlines set standards on the behavior and actions of pilots. they cant do things that put the passengers at risk, like drinking on the job. The things that can harm others are things a company is responsible for preventing, and this includes ensuring employees choices, actions and decisions are one’s that do not put clients/customers/patients/other employees in harm’s way. A pilot can either not drink before flights or not be a pilot. In healthcare, employees can harm patients in many ways, one of them is potentially spreading a deadly virus. A nurse can either vaccinate, not work as a nurse, or, if a nurse chooses to remain susceptible, must mitigate the risk to others by wearing a mask, weekly testing, etc. I personally would be happy if all personal/religious exemptions were eliminated for schools and other sectors.
  14. The idea of colonization proposed that instead of integrating freed slaves into American society, they would be better off if relocated to Africa where they could pursue a life free from the prejudice they would indefinitely face living in America. Your comment was: “Africa should be built up in a way that if blk people didn't want to deal with racism, they should have the option of living equally nice in Africa”. To suggest that if Blacks don’t want to deal with racism they can just leave is much more disturbing when suggested in 2021.
  15. So basically you support the ideas of colonization? If not you could have fooled me, since this is almost word for word one of their main arguments. If you have no idea what I am referring to then your words are just ignorant, but no less racist.
  16. hi! this is an old post, but if u see this, I am in the MSN pmhnp currently, I started Spring 2020. at the time I applied CA was approved, but today randomly saw that it is no longer approved! will be emailing stat but do u know if this applies to me (Spring 2020) or is it just starting as of fall 2020? thanks!
  17. to answer a previous question, it appears that he does believe vaccines cause autism LOL! sorry jack, but one does not get to establish whether or not they are antivax. it is a label you reveal based on what you “believe” and what u choose to read, and the kind of thinker u are. You say you believe vaccines cause autism but you are NOT an antivaxxer? you can say it over and over and over, bur it will never be true. unfortunately that ship has sailed away from reason and it has u on it.
  18. As a number of people stated, transgender itself is not the condition in the Dsm 5. dysphoria occurs when a person is having distress and other dysfunction as a result of NOT feeling that they are the gender they are assigned at birth. this is why a transgender person who transitions is no longer dysphoric, because they are now able to identify with the gender they feel they have. It's the un-transitioned person who may dysphoric.
  19. Well you described a nurse who does the bare minimum thinking and learning and studying in there time at the bedside (which is what u are saying u did). Newsflash, the RN role doesnt cap your brain at the bare minimum to complete tasks. You are at liberty to think and reason through your clinical work and take the time to read up things and watch lectures online if u want. I know there are nurses that havent cracked a book since nursing school and their idea of gaining of knowledge consists of whatever they passively can absorb while doing nursing care so they can back to their desk and resume scrolling on instagram. (This last comment may inflame people but it is meant to suggest that active learning is a choice.) Thats not to say I know how to do a differential or am able at this time to do a full workup, but there is no rule stopping me from thinking beyond how to prime an IV. I am not saying the RN is the same as the NP. It's not. I am in clinical reasoning in my NP Program, and I cant imagine having no bedside. I agree that RNs are not able to successfully do this. But if am able to make an educated guess about a diagnosis, imagine a new grad: it would have to be just taking shots in the dark. They would have to commit to rigorous study and even then it would be an uphill battle.
  20. I totally agree, we are not just implementing orders. We anticipate what is ordered and by seeing what docs order as well as collaborating with them all day. we are exposed to much of their clinical reasoning. Heck lets be honest much of the time we are calling them because we already know what is needed and they just have to enter it. And if we don't know then we are learning and seeing the many variances in treatment choices. We also have so much experience seeing how patients respond to treatment. just because we are not officially signing the order, we are learning how to clinically reason. If I call the doc about a patient change I am obviously have in mind what I suspect will be done. And every time they decide to order something or not change the orders, I am gaining layers of knowledge in regards to clinical reasoning. We are thinking through every aspect of our patient’s care every shift, at least those who plan to advance are hopefully nurses who do this. There is a ton to grasp at the bedside that just requires one to be inquisitive in order to continually elevate your thinking skills and reasoning.
  21. Well, hmm...lets see...black v white? Well white enslaved black for 250 years who then spent the next 150 years in a country that left them disadvantaged ever since. Top that off with a deep seed of racism in this country that has been present for 300 years and still exists today. So WOW! are u talking about? PS: in a thread about black history you feel the need to discuss “black vs white”. You answer your own question by posting the question.
  22. “If someone reaches a conclusion NOT based on logic or reason, logic and reason are not going to talk them out of it”. -Paul Offit, the great vaccine expert and advocate. (Quote borrowed from Niel Degrass Tyson) is the earth round? Nope! Show me the data! Look at this image of the earth! It’s literally round! Its the clearest data because you can “see” it with your own eyes! Nope! I need more data! What is clearer than this? I don't know, its just not good data! OK, Here is 1000 scientific works giving you the complex science and mathematical data showing the earth is round. Well There should be at peast 1,200 science articles for it to be convincing to me grr...OK...here are 200 more articles... (After shuffling thru a few titles...) OK nope. This data is just not convincing for me. A healthy skeptic can change their views given new information. There is NO amount of science that will convince certain types of thinkers.
  23. Its important to remember though that not all mistakes are equal. I have too made little errors that in the scheme of it all do not add up to potentially harming the patient. yes, take all mistakes seriously but also use your critical thinking and put them in perspective. Like lets say I forgot to give the once a day colace due at 9 am and then realized this and gave it at noon. I would not be going into a tailspin over the actual event, because its not that big of a deal. However I would do some personal reflecting on why I forgot. Maybe I needed to improve my time management. In this way there is a path to improve yourself but with some perspective. If you made a huge deal and wrote yourself up for this the doc would just be like...um OK. Who cares.
  24. I Agree with this. At this point, that patient was long gone, and it was over, and he was fine. Going to the manager now will be worse because it seems like you were trying to cover it up. As sour lemon admitted, I will also be the "unethical" one and say that if this DID ever resurface, say you did not realize it was q6. The odds of that happening are slim, but saying you knew would be bad. As long as you have taken stock and learned something, you can be OK with moving on.
  25. Is it considered “healed”? If so and your limb is now at full capacity, then no need to mention it, as it is not a chronic condition. That would be like listing that you had a cold once.
