  1. A morning where I have a patient with a gunshot wound crying for his mom d/t pain, another who has approximately 3 days to live and the family is all in tears, a man who's waiting for his discharge papers, and a brand new post op that's being wheeled onto the floor... I'm sorry, but please don't give me attitude for not being able to paint your toenails... Can you believe that? I hardly have time to sit and this woman is upset with me for not finding the time to paint her toenails. A hospital is a hospital not a hotel, not a day spa. What are some of these people thinking??? :trout: Anyways that was my venting for the day. A pointless post, but now that I got that off my chest I feel better already :)
  2. Thanks for all of your replies, it's nice to know that I am not the only one that is feeling this way or have felt this way. Allnurses keeps me afloat I have no intentions of bailing out of nursing so soon... at least not without trying other parts of nursing. I want to find my niche in nursing, but I have no idea what that would be at this point. I also understand that new jobs are not easy and it's not going to look good if I keep job-hopping. I am constantly stressed and it's not only hurting me, but my fiance as well. Many of you are right and I really need to sit down and think about why I am feeling this way. I have today and tomorrow off, I think I need to take some deep breaths and see where to go from here.
  3. I am a new nurse and have been at it for 5 months. Before starting my life as a nurse, I was incredibly excited about the new road ahead of me. I knew it would not be easy, but I had no idea how much it would hurt my relationship and that it is slowly sucking the life out of me. I come home from work everyday exhausted, I'm irritable, and I just want to get in my pjs and curl up on the couch and be left alone. Some days are so difficult that I come home crying. My fiance who has stuck with me since nursing school (and we all know how difficult it is to keep a relationship during that time lol) is telling me how he doesn't like who I am anymore since I have started my new job and we are beginning to talk less. I'm not enjoy life and I am pushing others away from me. I keep hoping that everyday I go to work I will learn more and become more comfortable with things, but I find more self more miserable with each passing day. I work on a busy orthopedic/trauma unit and I'm wondering maybe it isn't the unit for me. Maybe I should switch to a different unit or maybe I'm just too new and need to stick it out longer.... I have have no idea anymore and don't know what to do. Is this normal? I've worked so hard to be here and I am not enjoying it. :trout:
  4. My 1st day off of orientation will be this Sunday and I am honestly terrified I hope things will click in the future. Eek, I'm so nervous!
  5. I came home last night and cried. We get 8 weeks of orientation and I'm on my last week. I get through my shifts ok, but it's all just so overwhelming. I got great recommendations from my teachers, however, I am questioning it because I feel like I am not where I should be. I'm terrified of being on my own even though I know resource will be there to help me as well as the other experienced nurses. Just when the anxiety of getting through and passing NCLEX was over... here I am all anxious again
  6. I took Kaplan and thought it was completely worth it. I also had Saunder's 3rd edition, however, I felt that Kaplan was much more helpful. I know it's different for others, but that's what worked for me. Also, a Kaplan rep came to our class and we got $50 off for signing up that same day. $450... still ridiculous but I can't complain since I passed
  7. I passed with 75 woohoo! Took the exam last Tuesday found out on Friday :monkeydance: :penguin:
  8. Hey student79, Oh I'm sure it's doable just by reading, etc. I'm just the type who likes interaction and I learn better that way. Many of the things we talked about in class is also on the Kaplan online study center. I know other people have done different things that didn't involve spending a rediculous amount of money and do just fine on the exam. Unfortunately I don't know what other things are great to use, but I'm sure other people on here can answer that :) From reading other people's posts it sounds like Suzanne's plan is great so that might be something to look into. I was interested in another online study source by NCSBN http://www.learningext.com/ I had learned about them a few days before my test date so I figured it would have been pointless for me to try it out. I guess they create questions for the NCLEX so I figure it has to be a really good online review course. Anyways, the comp shut me off at 75 questions and now I have to wait forever until the results ugh
  9. I've never heard of Sylvia Rayfield, but I took Kaplan NCLEX RN Complete (with the class and the online stuff) and I thought it was really helpful. I took the NCLEX yesterday and felt that Kaplan really prepared me for the type of questions that I got on the exam. Although I don't know if I passed or not yet, I liked Kaplan (unless I fail.. then I might change my mind haha). It was a lot of money, but so far I thought it was worth it. I also have Saunders 3rd edition and it's great for content, however, I felt Kaplan was more useful to me. That's just my opinion
  10. It's only the day after the NCLEX for me and I'm not going to say how much I already spent on shopping today... :chuckle
  11. One of my friends said that she called the board and they were not helpful. She also said something about calling will slow the process down (as if it wasn't slow already)... I didn't know what that really meant but I've been hesitant to call.
  12. Couple of my friends who took it a few weeks ago still haven't received their results yet. We all graduated in December. I took it yesterday and I have a feeling I'll be waiting for a while..... Stupid CA.....
  13. Congrats Lori... RN!!!!!
  14. Good luck LoriRN2B! I will also be testing on Tuesday as well. We're on our way to becoming wonderful nurses!
  15. Hey congrats 2007BSN!!!!:balloons: :balloons: I'm taking the exam next Tuesday I just know my anxiety is going to get worse right after taking it. So you said you took it on Wed and found out today..... so it took approx. 3 days for you to find your name on the site?? I'm in Cali also and from what I have heard and read, Cali seems to take forever. I am just curious to know how quick they post names if you pass.
  16. It took a bit for them to send me the email. I did the registration on a Thursday at around 430pm and then I didn't get the email until the next day on Friday in the afternoon. I remember checking my email constantly because my friends had gotten the email right after registering except for me lol but there it was the next day :)
  17. When I registered, the same thought went through my head. They sent me a registration acknowledgment email. I didn't read it over very well the first time, but when I read it again, I found that they had given me a username and password. Hope that helps...
  18. Thanks dimplez, that was helpful to know that. Congrats to you on passing, that's awesome!!!!:balloons:
  19. Thanks for the reply! I'm using Kaplan NCLEX-RN complete (with classes, course book, Qbank, question trainer, etc.) I also have Saunder's 3rd edition. The NCLEX is driving me crazy.
  20. I take the NCLEX in less than 2 weeks and I am using Kaplan to help me prepare. I am noticing that my scores so far are in the 50s and 60s (highest being 63%). They say if you get over 65% then you're ready for it. I still have a few question trainers to go through, however, I'm getting discouraged with my scores. Are there many of you that scored 65% and above on the Kaplan practice tests? Are there any who scored lower than 65% and passed the NCLEX? The NCLEX date is getting closer and I'm worried my scores are going to continue to plummet :uhoh21: meaning maybe I'm not ready for the exam... losing confidence... ahh! The anxiety is setting in if you haven't already noticed lol Thanks! Wendy
  21. Harder than kaplan?? Now I'm getting scared. I've been studying with just kaplan, should I be doing more?? I'm getting so overwhelmed
  22. I take in 2 weeks and I'm already on edge haha. I agree with not cramming. I think cramming right before will make things more overwhelming. I know when I start to cram, I begin to think about all the things I don't know and then I really freak out... In reality, we can't know everything. I'm sure you have studied hard and have done all that you can for it and with that in mind, you will pass! Good luck to you!:balloons:
  23. Well, with what everyone said.... I'm going Thanks for everyone's reply and encouragement! I really appreciate it :balloons: Wendy
  24. I don't know if this is a silly question or not, but there is a hospital putting on a new grad recruitment fair that I would like to attend, however, I don't know if it is ok to attend since I have not graduated yet. I couldn't fine a number to call to ask this specific question. I will be graduating next month and I'm interested in working for this hospital in the future. I just don't want to make a fool out of myself if it is only for those who have just graduated. Does anyone know? Thank you! Wendy
