  1. Mental Health Registry for an American BSN?

Hi all. I've posted intermittently around here. A few years ago I was researching moving to the UK to work as a nurse. I am now renewing my interest as I am sorely tired of America (I'm American-born, but lived overseas for most of my childhood). I'v...
  2. Resources on becoming UK nurse?

I have wanted to move to the UK for years and now, after a recent visit, I want to more than ever! I am a Bachelor's Degree educated nurse from the USA. I have over five years of experience in long-term care and skilled nursing facilities as well as ...
  3. Behavioral Health Nurse- break from floor nursing?

I just started in psych nursing. I was first on an outpatient substance abuse program (methadone) and now I work on a small (10 bed) voluntary psych unit. The voluntary part of this is what makes it more manageable than maybe some other places...I lo...
  4. My first job as an RN was at a SNF. 30 patients but I usually had someone to do meds and then I had everything else. You learn tricks as you go. 20 shouldn't be too bad once you get the hang of it. Re: troubling CNAs. You have to establish authority ...
  5. Commissioning Question

I commissioned into the Army Reserves last May. My recruiter told me it takes about 45-60 days for the scroll to be approved...then another 45-60 days to generate appointment orders. That's about how it went too.
  6. Army Reserve Nursing

I'm thinking out loud...does the Guard hire nurses? I think not. I think it's just Active and Reserves...I may be completely wrong. As it happens I was drilling this weekend and the local recruiter rolled through to ask if we might be able to help he...
  7. Army Reserve Nursing

I would take sitting through class any day (and getting paid for it too I might add) to this bull crap with the internet modules not working. If I can make it through nursing school lectures I can make it through anything lol!
  8. Army Reserve Nursing

Lunah, interesting. I remember during last year's board they supposedly had spots set aside just for new grads. I imagine this is all changing though. I followed the link to your blog and I really enjoyed what I read. Very informative. Especially ab...
  9. Army Reserve Nursing

When I first applied I heard that ADNs could apply for Reserves but that you can't make past a certain rank (I think Captain? But don't quote me on that) until you get a BSN. Active Duty has always only taken BSNs. They are parsing the force down qui...
  10. Opportunities for newer nurse relocating to MA?

Thanks for the tip! I've been in Mass 3 weeks now and am starting floor orientation for a per diem SNF not too far from my apt. I'm still interested in trying to find something a bit more permanent with a bit more hours so this helps. I will try and ...
  11. Okay, so I am more or less the poster child for a young nurse in this current job market. I graduated from University with my BSN in Dec 2009 and all I was able to find in my local area was a long term care job. Before I took the job, I was worried t...
  12. The Worst Its Ever Been

I wish nurses all over the country would unionize. The fact that we haven't just BLOWS my MIND. I know a lot of nurses are against this. I remember a clinical instructor at nursing school took a very distasteful attitude toward it. "We are PROFESSION...
  13. Is there a nursing shortage or not?

I graduated in Dec 2009. Here in Central MO in our University town we have 3 big hospitals (some might say 4, but the extra one is an extension of University hospital). When I was a senior in nursing school doing my practicum we had the traditional w...
  14. Army Reserve Nursing

@Jerryl and anyone else doing OBC soon: During training, if you're able, or afterwards, could you post some impressions/tips/etc of your experience of OBC. Us future reservists would love to know what we're in for :)
  15. Army Reserve Nursing

Thanks for the info! I take back what I said :) Does anyone know what the compensation is for OBC? I did also hear that you have to be really proactive to get a spot. Random question also: being reservists do we have to buy our own uniforms or is the...
  16. Army Reserve Nursing

I got the 2 week number directly from my AMEDD recruiter. It's also on this site: http://www.goarmy.com/reserve/jobs/browse/medical-and-emergency/nurse-corps-officer.html
  17. Army Reserve Nursing

I'm still green to this myself but aren't medics enlisted? If you go in as a nurse I know they will want you to do OBC if you haven't already...for Reservists it's only 2 weeks at Ft Sam Houston in TX. As for experience/type of experience. I am a ne...
  18. Army Reserve Nursing

Thanks! So reading between the lines, I want to get finished with OBC as soon as possible? Nothing extra I can really do until then? I just talked to my recruiter today and my name was selected on Feb 28 and they're just waiting on my scroll which, a...
  19. Career help in the Army Reserves?

Hi all, I applied for the Nov 2010 board for Army Active Duty and was put on the OML. Then I found out about 2 weeks ago that I was selected for a Reserves position and I am so ready to get my foot in the military door and bust out of this town, that...
  20. Army Reserve Nursing

Sorry to post in what looks to be an older thread. I was recently selected for the ARNC. Doing the 45-60 day wait I was told to expect before I get my orders. I am planning on moving to New England (my recruiter found a unit in MA for me after I told...
  21. Opportunities for newer nurse relocating to MA?

Thank you so much for the tip! I believe NH is a compact state too? My license is currently in MO so that's one less expense!
  22. Studying in Japan as a nurse....Possible? Pratical?

I agree with the above response pertaining to the military bases. I enjoy Japanese language too. I lived in Japan for 4 years and have been studying it very casually for years since leaving, though I am planning on going back to serious study again n...
  23. U.k nurse employment

I e-mailed an agency recruiter over there not too long ago and I was told that there are very few jobs in London, but that there is a lot of need for nurses in more rural areas--especially operating theatre.
  24. Calling residents affectionate names?

I play it by ear. If it's a new resident I'm a bit more formal and I ask what they would like to be called. If I've known them awhile and they use terms of endearment for me, I return the endearment in kind. I will use first names, too, but I've foun...
  25. Career help in the Army Reserves?

Oh I am definitely going for it! I was selected and my recruiter is pushing the paperwork through now. Gonna be a 66H before I know it :) It's so encouraging to know that I will have help finding work in my new location. I know nothing about the area...
