I just renewed my MA license online, still got a physical copy in the mail about 4 weeks later. It is true that most employers check online, but I would contact BON if it doesn't come within the next two weeks. It is nice to have it in hand. Congratulations!
  2. I have seen, in several places, the use of the word "prolly" for probably and it drives me nutty.
  3. I love my wonderwink scrubs, I wear plus size and had to go up 2 sizes in greys for the tops to fit comfortably. But wonderwink fit true to size, yet still flattering on curves.
  4. I love med-surg! I love the variety of patients, an appy, a lap chole, diverticulitis, COPD and asthma all in one shift. You will learn so much in med-surg. Good luck!
  5. Cafeteria: "we are out of coffee!"
  6. My husband thinks I'm nuts for watching this show...I'm also addicted to intervention the tv show too. Perhaps addicted is the incorrect term. 😱
  7. One nursing instructor told the class that a Foley catheter was better than bladder scan, related to the patient having to down to ultrasound for this procedure. I informed her that they are readily available in the hospital and she told the class I was very wrong. This was 2012 or so. Mind you she hadn't been in a hospital setting as a nurse in a long time.
  8. 1. 1 2. MA 3. MA
  9. I recently had a small surgery and went back after 3 weeks, two weeks would have had me doubting what I could physically do. Three was perfect. I work med/surg primarily.
  10. Yogurt, cheese sticks, pretzels and easy packable fruit, bananas, oranges and apples are perfect to go snacks for me. Already packaged! I second the boiled eggs, I cook a bunch of them at once and they are always in the fridge ready to go.
  11. I too get crazy restless legs with benadryl, but it was better my itchy skin rash.
  12. Not true, the only ATI exam I did not get a level three in was pharm, and I was only one question away from that one too. I did every practice exam and read the rationales for each answer, even the correct ones and did each exam until I could get 100%. I did these on the couch while watching TV as well. I say this because I don't want you to stress out, but do what you can, when you can. You can do this!
  13. Had a pt recently who may have had a stroke at home and was not caught (baseline sluggish, prev strokes)until Neuro saw her and she was yawning and the MD said excessive yawning can be a sign in the nonverbal pts.
  14. I did the red cross CNA over 20 years ago and it was worth it. I did one year in LTC and then moved to a hospital. I can't recommend ARC enough.
  15. I bought the raspberry one and have had no issues with stains.
  16. Color transfer happens from pens/pencils and anything else that it comes with. A few years ago I bought the light pink breast cancer littman and it just looks dirty now.
  17. PTA bath- pits, **** and orifice. Fluff and Buff- turn, clean , lotion and reposition.
  18. We run zosyn over 4 hrs too.
  19. I agree with Rose_Queen, you cannot control other people, only how you react to them. I had an instructor in school who didn't like me and we had disagreed on several things. I was told in my ICU rotation that the questions I was asking were too advanced for my schooling. She felt that I lacked the basics, well I passed with no issues and I now know how to deal with those people. I nod my head, listen and go on about my day. As long as your evaluations are fine, just ignore the naysayers and think about what brought you to nursing. Mine was interacting with patients and being able to help them get better. Good luck!
  20. Years ago we used cooling blankets, the kind that circulated cold water through a plastic blanket. I set up machine, placed blanket under pt and turned on...oops forgot to connect tubing, water flying everywhere! My pants and shoes were soaked, shoes squishy all shift after that. Yuk.
  21. This is my husband...tells pre op nurse he has no bp problems, but is on 2 different meds for it. Thankfully I was there to correct him.
  22. I learned this as HS care as well, but the actual act called effluerage is still taught in NS , at least mine in 2012. I give back rubs all of the time.
  23. And my favorite is how the IV pumps are never infusing properly, ie Alaris pumps that are flashing red or yellow not green. They can figure out how to shut off alarm but can't turn the light to green?
  24. I too personally enjoy the SBAR fax, but I would like the ink to be dry on it before you call to ask if I have any questions. The fax is easy to read and is system by system. The only other problem can be handwriting at times. Also our ED is not yet on the computer system, so I have no clue until I get said fax.
  25. This is stupid, but it bugs me anyway. The IV pumps by alaris are always flashing yellow or red on the tv. Couldn't someone rig the darn thing to be green for pity's sake.
