  1. Rural Nusing for new grads?

I've been researching facilities in my area (I graduate in May and should be licensed by the end of June) and in the process happened to run across rural nursing and fell in love with the idea. Would you recommend this for a new grad?
  2. I was offered a position there. Any experiences you can share?
  3. I was offered a position at a large teaching hospital on a med-surg floor. It's a place where there is a ton of opportunity for advancement and lateral transfers. I'm starting to freak out about only having a 6 week orientation, though. They don't h...
  4. Need Delray Medical Center Feedback ASAP!!!

It sucks b/c of the patients. Typical snowbirds plus typical understaffing. If you can survive Delray though, you can make it almost anywhere. Good luck on Neuro/Tele. It's a hell of a floor for a new grad but if you survive you'll be amazing.
  5. New grad, job on MS floor, 6 week orientation. Freak out.

Thanks all. I think it's more preemptive nerves than anything. I haven't even started yet! My preceptorship I had 6 pts on a busy tele floor, so I'm just worried. This is a huge opportunity for me. I guess 6 weeks is standard.
  6. Gut this resume! Rip it apart! (Really, I need concrit.)

The EKG class was via my college. The NIHSS was online via the AHA website.
  7. thanks to anyone and everyone who looks this over. i appreciate all constructive criticism you have to give. the text in red are things i feel i should probably ditch. let me know. i'm sitting for the nclex in 5 days and i want to have a resume set t...

PM'd you! Thank you! You're preemptively amazing!
  10. Here's my cover letter that I will be sending to a new grad program. Should I add in anything regarding experiences or use their vision statement or mission at all? It's a 200ish bed christian based not for profit facility so I don't know if there's...
  11. Critique my cover letter! (seriously, rip this baby apart)

This was always intended as an exercise in advice. I would never, never consider any revisions or advice someone offered me as the only way to write this. I posted because I honestly have no idea how to write an effective cover letter and the commun...
  12. Critique my cover letter! (seriously, rip this baby apart)

    replied wrong.
  13. Critique my cover letter! (seriously, rip this baby apart)

Woah. Um, thanks everyone. I wasn't expecting this big or impassioned of a response. This isn't the only new grad program I'm applying for. It's all but nigh on impossible to get an RN position without a formal new grad program in my state. I was al...
  14. Critique my cover letter! (seriously, rip this baby apart)

i was wondering about including their mission/vision. i'll definitely add/recreate this to use them effectively. the reason i included the bls/other certs in the letter is because i was instructed by hr to include it there instead of on the applica...
  15. Critique my cover letter! (seriously, rip this baby apart)

MyLady, Getting a name out of HR is like pulling teeth from a lion. I'd love to address it personally, but sometimes, it's not possible. If I manage to get one though, whom am I addressing by name? HR or the UD/NM? Thank you though! I appreciate the...
  16. Critique my cover letter! (seriously, rip this baby apart)

  17. need input plse. re: Parish Medical center (TITTUSVILLE)

Bumping this. I'm applying to their new grad program. Any opnions?
  18. I'll echo the comments in here who say ignore those who belittle your position. If you're doing what you're suppossed to do then you are competent and that's all that's required. I'm a CNA/Sitter and, man, I can't tell you the amount of times I've be...
  19. Becoming A More Desirable Job Applicant

If you don't want to recert for your CNA, consider volunteering at an area hospital. Also, check out nurse tech/extern/intern positions. Really anything in a major hospital system can help (my friend worked as a transporter in a major national hospit...
  20. Unions and strikes?

Thank you for not immediately bashing the OP and offering an well thought out response to the question. I appreciate people who can debate and offer information without automatically ripping the OP to shreds.
  21. Rural Nusing for new grads?

Thanks joanna73. I sort of figured, but it can't hurt to ask right?
  22. How can I make up clinical hours?

Our clinical hours include community health - usually not done until BSN programs- (migrant clinic and health dept) and long term care hours which are on top of our in hospital clinical hours. Also, extra preceptor shifts over what the state requires...
  23. Where Is The Worst place to work in Florida?

defensive much? Have you been to some parts of the county lately? They make the projects look like they're the Dubai Towers. Also, I'm pretty sure the reference was regarding the state of the health care economy what with all the medicaid/medicare fr...
  24. Please, for the love of all that is holy, toss those leggings on a bonfire!
  25. How can I make up clinical hours?

What are the minimum required clinical hours in your state for a student to be licensed? My program has about 200 extra hours built into the program over our state minumum. Are you still meeting the minimum requirements for the state? If so, definite...
