  1. I just want to quit..

To be honest I would stick it out until the third semester or you due date. Take a semester break (or whatever is allowed in your school). You want to focus on your child, especially in the first couple month. And not all nursing is hospital nursing...
  2. German nurse with CA RN license

Question: I graduated nursing school in Germany in 2002 and worked for over 2 years on a cardiac ICU. We moved to the US in 2005. Since June 2012 I have my CA RN license. I didn't go through nursing school here again, I just submitted all the require...
  3. German nurse with CA RN license

Hi Damla, CA is a unique state, the board of nursing does the evaluation by themself, they don't require CGFNS or TOEFL. (Which makes it harder when you move to another state later on). Do you have Facebook? We have a group called Deutsche Registered...
  4. Hopefully someone has been in the same boat and can help me! I graduated from my German nursing school in 2002 with a German nursing diploma. I worked for about 2 years on an ICU before we moved to the US. I got my CA RN license in 2012 and worked fo...
  5. I want to go back to school to get my BSN but I'm running into the problem that colleges/universities won't accept my German schooling. I went to nursing school in Germany, got a nursing diploma there and worked for about 2 years before we moved to t...
  6. Quick question, does anybody know what "Valid Virginia Only (Compact Designation)" on your license means? I always thought VA is a compact state, does that mean I can only work in VA with my license? A little background, I'm a nurse in Germany, moved...
  7. Valid Virginia Only (Compact Designation)

Not really, even though I live close to NC, I'm just trying to think ahead for the future. I hope it will be easier next time (wherever we go) to get my license endorsed in another state. Since I did CGFNS and TOEFL I hope the evaluation doesn't expi...
  8. Valid Virginia Only (Compact Designation)

Oh ok that explains it, our "home of records" is Florida and I do have a FL driver license. We're currently living in VA due to my husbands military orders. Thanks!
  9. German education, CA license, living in VA

Really? What do they want? WES? Have you tried bigger Universities, like Chamberlain, Colorado Tech, Walden Uni, Grand Canyon,..?
  10. German education, CA license, living in VA

Did you have an evaluation through CGFNS done? Usually Universities will accept that. Which Colleges did you contact?
  11. CA is a State that doesn't require an English Test - BUT no State will accept you without having a SSN
  12. I'm looking to get my BSN. I have a foreign nursing diploma and a CA RN license. I was interested in University of Wyoming, Fort Hays University, and WGU. Fort Hays out of State tuition is horrendous (there in state tuition is the cheapest I've seen ...
  13. Universities that don't require a current job

Thanks, I have heard of it, but haven't looked into it. Will definitely do that soon!
  14. German education, CA license, living in VA

Awesome! Hubby is military too, I'll go ahead and request some info from them :-) How do you like it? Is it stressful? What kind of classes are you currently taking?
  15. German education, CA license, living in VA

Thanks for replying KCMnurse! No, I didn't need to have an evaluation done, since the BON in CA does those themselves. I only had to send in a certified translation of my documents - they did their own evaluation. You're right about the credit hours...
  16. German education, CA license, living in VA

Thanks! I do have a current and active US license and I was working as an RN until we moved. VA doesn't allow me to to get a license through endorsement without having an evaluation done - even though I have a CA license. I understand to have an Eng...
  17. reciprocity from cali to VA (foreign graduate)

Yes you do. I'm a foreign graduate and had no problems (no CGFNS, no English profiency test) to get my license in California. Moving to Virgina and tried to apply for licensure by endorsement. The BON told me I need a credential evaluation through CG...
  18. Temp RN license in VA

We're moving from CA to VA soon, I tried to apply for licensure by endorsement, but it won't let me do it, since my nursing school was in a foreign country. The Board told me to go through CGFNS and have everything evaluated. The CA BON didn't requir...
  19. Temp RN license in VA

Thank you ArtieRN! Yes that answers the question I had!
  20. Temp RN license in VA

I'm not complaining, sorry if it sounded like that. I was just merely wondering if there is any way I can work until I get my VA license issued. CA was a pretty easy state (at least for me) to get my license, since they do all the evaluation themsel...
  21. I went to nursing school in Germany where I also worked for 2 years on an ICU after receiving my diploma in 2002. We moved to the US in 2005. I passed the NCLEX-RN in CA in 2012 and since then I'm working in a surgical center. My husband is military ...
  22. CA doesn't require you to take an English proficiency exam. The BON itself will evaluate your credentials and tell you if you need some more classes or if you're good to go. I've never heard of State accepting RN applicants. Go to the CA BON website ...
  23. German nurse with CA RN license

Ah ok, that makes me feel better :-). We'll find out in the next couple month where we are going, thanks for your help!
  24. German nurse with CA RN license

So even though I have an active nursing license in CA I have to go through the whole process again? Do I have to take the NCLEX again? I didn't have to go through the CGFNS here in CA, everything got evaluated by the nursing board itself.
  25. RN (Diploma) to CNM?

I went to nursing school in Germany and received a diploma in 2002. We moved to the US in 2005 and since this summer (2012) I'm an RN in CA. I'm currently working at a surgery center but my ultimate goal is to be a CNM. What would you guys recommend?...
