What is your personal philosophy of nursing?

Please read this thread I started back in the summer. I asked the same question before nursing school even started for me and was bombarded with accusations with asking for "homework" help. Before I had any assignments. Many people answered my questi...

Clinical Site Rules for Your School?

I think once we are further along in our program (ADN) we will have more freedom to chart. Especially in our preceptorships. It really depends on the facility you are at. The hospital we are in clinical does not want student nurses charting. I suppos...

Clinical Site Rules for Your School?

We do not document anything. We do our own head to toe assessment to turn into our clinical instructor. If we do get vitals, give baths, etc. We report this to the CNA who documents our information. Any nursing related duties are given to the pts RN...

How did you pass dosage calculation?

I agree with the Dimensional Analysis. That's the formula that worked best for me.

    Best Review Book for School/NCLEX

I don't know who you were addressing, but after switching to PREP-U my nursing program now has a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX. All of our new grads pass on the first try. I am only in the second semester of my first year, but I am always doing the PRE...

    Best Review Book for School/NCLEX

PREP-U is the most amazing NCLEX prep! My school just dumped using the Saunders and went to PREP-U. I highly suggest this. It has been a great tool for tests and preparing for the NCLEX. It is worth every penny! :) Amazon.com: NCLEX-RN 10,000 - Pow...

How did you pass dosage calculation?

Practice, practice, practice. Don't bother working out calculations you already know. Focus on the one's you are having trouble with. I had to make a 100% in order to pass. You can do 90%. :) Don't think to hard. Memorize formulas. I am so glad to ...

    dressing change

My clinical instructor is a WOCN and she has sought out many dressing changes for us. We use clean gloves but change into a fresh pair when needed during the dressing change, such as right after removing the old dressing. We do not use sterile gloves....
  16. Hi Esme! I think she was trying to say at first she wanted to be a CRNA then after Psych she decided she liked that better. I was confused too until I re-read it. :) I'm sorry you are struggling. Try to find out what you were doing wrong, try to fix...
  17. You don't need to take all your books with you. If you want to take any...find out exactly which one(s) you will need for that day and just take those. I rarely take my because everything we need comes from Power Points.

    Advice!!!

I am not in a BSN program, but an ADN program. My advice is to stay as organized as possible. I bought a large calender and it on my fridge with important dates such as clincal, skills check-off days, and test days. It has helped me a lot. Also, buyi...

    How hard is sociology ?

Sociology was the most ridiculous class I took before getting into nursing school. Very easy and unneeded in my opinion.

    Anyone taken philosophy?

I took a Philosophy class just to take it. I didn't need it for my nursing degree. I was just interested in it. It is a lot of thinking and reading. It was a very tough class and only a few people passed, myself included.

    Real vs fake chest pain

I would treat everyone as if the are experiencing true chest pain. It isn't for us to decide is the are faking or not. Always cover yourself and follow policy.

    why do cna think

This needs to be closed. I, too, smell troll. However, CNA's are an important part of healthcare. CNA's who have been working for awhile do learn things and pick up on skills, etc. Yes, many CNA's may call themselves "nurses", but so do MA's. Why wo...
