  1. Apparently at these hospitals, you are not allowed to use your own...
  2. I was just informed that at some hospitals, there are stethoscopes at every patients bedside that all health care professionals share. It freaks me out! The very thought that I have to put something in my ears that a bunch of other people use turns my stomach. Does anyone else's hospital do this? If so, besides alcohol wipes how would you clean it?
  3. I'm a student also and I just bought the Pink Littmann, I don't think too many people will want to walk away with it!
  4. I am starting RT school in a week and I am currently a stay at home mom of 2. I am thinking of getting a part time job and need opinions on whether or not this is feasible with two kids ages 7 and 21 months. Has anyone else done this?
  5. Congrats on your acceptance!!!! I also start Respiratory Care 1 at the end of august. I just ordered my books. I am also very excited and scared at the same time!
  6. How long should a person wait until they take their newborn out? The reason I ask this is I have lately seen many very young babies at carnivals, malls, etc. One lady told me her baby was 6 days old and she had her out at a carnival. I was under the impression that a newborn exposure to germs should be kept at a minimum for at least 6 weeks.
  7. really? I thought nursing had better opportunites and pay. I think the autonomy of working as an RT was a plus for me.
  8. I say if RT is your first choice, go for it! I am starting an RT program this fall because I find the waiting lists to get into nursing school crazy! I found the RT program and decided that I would rather do this. I dont think I have the stomach to deal with some of the things that nurses deal with. I can handle sputum but not poo!

I have to agree. I wouldn't take depo again. I gained 30lbs in one year, had terrible acne and bad mood swings. I recently had mirena and I wouldn't take that again either. Horrible mood swings on that as well. Just my opinion

It took me only one month to get one again after I stopped depo.
  11. Hi all, I need some opinions. I need both micro and chem to finish up my pre reqs. My question is which one should I take first? I took Physiology and found I had a hard time in it because of all the chem in it. I didn't fully understand everything and I wound up with a C. Would taking chem first help me with micro?
  12. There is one called rtcorner.net. Indeed.com also has an RT forum. There are a couple of others and a few RT blogs that have links to forums. RTcorner.net I believe has links to others as well.
  13. I keep hearing that most students fail out... it's starting to scare me. Why do they fail? What were your clinicals like?
  14. I know there are a few RT or RN's who used to be RT's here. Can anyone tell me what to expect in school?
  15. I am starting respiratory school this fall and I am 29! I am sure you will have some people in your classes that are your age or older. I know the feeling though, I thought the same thing when I registered.
  16. I am currently taking my pre- reqs for a career in the medical field. I need some advice. I can't decide whether to go for Respiratory Therapist or RN. RN programs in my area have waiting lists, but I got right into an RT program. My question is, should I become an RT instead of an RN. If you had a choice, which would you pick? I just don't want to sit around waiting for years or whatever to get into an RN program.
  17. my SO is an engineer. I can't say he's completley unsupportive, I am a stay at home mom to out 18 month old son. So financially he is supportive, but any other war, forget it.
  18. Ok heres the thing, I have a BS in HR management and I don't like the field. I am currently taking pre- reqs to make a transition into the medical field. I really want to do nursing but my SO is so unsupportive. He tells me that nursing is a lowly career, that I will only wipe butts all day, and if I want to be in the field I should aim for the top of the field like becoming a dr or pharmacist. How do I convince him that Nurses are vital and it is a career that he should respect?
  19. I guess it really depends on you. Personally I would wait, If nursing is something you really have wanted to do for ages, and considering how hard it is to get into a program. From what I hear, NS is also very stressful, and if you were to get pregnant or have a newborn, It would be very difficult to get through. Good luck
  20. Thank you for your kind words on my nervous post. BELIEVE me I know what you are going through. As far as the entrance exam goes.... it's cake! I was nervous going into it and I didn't study at all. It was basic math, adding, subtracting, multiply and divide. There were maybe one or two very simple algebra equations on it. For example 3x+5=20. The english part was easy also... just read the sentence out loud but in your head... that makes it easy to find the errors. DON'T let negative people discourage you. I am a mom of two ages 6 and 9 months. My boyfriend is NOT supportive in this at all. He tells me that Nursing is a job for lowly people. I ignore him and am still going to follow my dream. You should do the same as well! Good luck :)
  21. Hi All! I am starting an LPN program in 2 weeks and I am super nervous. I have no idea what to expect. What are some things I should have to make this program run more smoothly? Any advice is appreciated :)

Hi all, I am currently an LPN student. At the end of my LPN, I can't decide if I should get a BSN or an ADN. I already have a BS degree in management, so would it even make a difference to get a BSN? The acclerated program for BSN in my area is very expensive and I get no student aid... not even loans because I have too many student loans from my previous education. My previous college was very expensive. If I decide to get an ADN and already have a degree in management, would I be considered for management positions?
  23. The problem with the BS to BSN is that its super expensive in my area. The only university around here costs 30K for the year. I do not qualify for any sort of financial aid or student loans because I already have a BS. My Plan was to go for the LPN, get a job at a local hospital part time and then go for the BSN on the accelerated track. I am not sure if this is the best thing to do or not. I was actually also playing around with getting the LPN and going right into an ADN program then work as an RN at a hospital, then go back for the BSN. This is the cheapest path for me I think. Anyone have any opinions about what I should do considering the financial aspect of it.
  24. Hello all. This might be kind of long so please bear with me. I was recently laid off from my position as an HR recruiter. I would like to go back to school to pursue a nursing degree. Most of the schools in my area that offer an ADN program are full until fall of 08. (I currently have as BS in management). I think it would be a waste of time for me to sit around and do nothing for a year, and still not be guarenteed a spot in the nursing programs in the fall. Does anyone think it would be beneficial for me to attend an 18 month part time LPN program? I really want to be an RN and eventually become a Nurse Practitioner. I am also confused about the differences in duties between an RN and an LPN. The other complication is that I am currently on unemployment and they will only pay as long as I am in a program that will lead to a career specific degree which is another reason why I am considering LPN program. Would getting an LPN make getting an RN faster?
