  1. Have you ever had training/competency on a Mechanical lift that was fun? Every year, its the same old thing. Lie down, roll over and up you go! **I'd like to offer management a fun alternative to this yearly required competency. Have you ever partici...
  2. Mechanical Lift Competency/Training.

I couldn't imagine one, that's why I asked. :) I would really like to offer a fun, more imaginative suggestion to work through this required competency this year. I thought asking 969,000 nursing professionals might lead to something.
  3. Do you think I did something wrong here? Advice?

Well done! You have the makings of an excellent nurse, keep it up! You are in NO danger of losing a license you have not obtained yet. NO CHANCE! Don't you sweat that. This situation was a mess and you did the right thing. I would have liked the doc ...
  4. Gift for a nurse.

My mother recently had an ablation and wants to send her nurses a gift. What did you enjoy receiving the most? What limitations are there? I think it cannot be expensive and no fresh flowers...am I right? Thanks for your help.
  5. CLEAR!!-ly, This guy has got to go.
  6. Caring for a dear friend at home....

I have a friend in her 80's that I have known since I was an infant. I am sure at one point she changed my diapers and now it is my turn to return the favor. She is in renal failure and liver failure. She has been given an expiration of 2 weeks about...
  7. 3-11

I'm a per diem employee, a nurse for 6 years. I pick up 11-7 and 3-11 in LTC. I find that I just cannot get done with all my duties on the 3-11 shift within those hours. How do you get it all done? I had a resident with a skin tear on his shin, that ...
  8. Miserable at work

Nursing home 11-7 was my first job too. I have worked at several now and they are all different. Lately I have been working 3-11.....i take back anything bad I ever said about 11-7.
  9. Dr office vs er

The hospital will give you more experience and more money than a doctors office. Don't overlook the nursing home!
  10. This is a unit where I was the only nurse, I had 3 CNA and 61 residents all in various stages of Alzheimer's. One night I had an issue with a combative resident. After trying the usual nursing measures (Incontinence care/toileting, snack, fluids, red...
  11. LTC incident, what are your thoughts.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I was asked to write a response to the issue, which I did. I can appreciate the administering the PRN one at a time to figure out which worked, I guess I was coming from the standpoint (in the moment) that sometimes...
  12. Baylor Plan

If you look on Monster or any Job search website you can search 'Baylor'. They are few and far between but the pay is FANTASTIC! You do work three 12 hour shifts, every weekend, you LIFE may not be fantastic but your check will be.
  13. Who floats first?

As we have no travelers, 1.) Per Diem 2.) Scheduled Full-time rotation If there is a per diem nurse available there should not be a need for you to float. I'm per diem, thats why, gimme something different!
  14. I feel so embarrased and feel like harrased...

He was probably mortified. I do not see you as being harassed in this situation.
  15. Reporting Abuse

You did the right thing. Your supervisor handled that most unprofessionally. There is no yelling required. She should have KNOWN about the incident and calmly told you on the phone that it had been handled. You could then have let your staff know an...
  16. Are nurses nice to each other?

No one likes to hear they did something wrong, but in nursing since doing something wrong can lead to death, sometimes you have to speak up. The response you get depends on how you approach the issue. Tact, its important. I let everyone know when the...
  17. What is Board Certification

Hi Everyone! I graduated in July and passed my NCLEX in August and am now working as an RN. I was wondering.... What is Board Certification and how do I go about working towards it? I cannot pursue my BSN at present so I thought I would work on a BC?...
  18. What is Board Certification

    Thank you!
  19. Last Week of Studying...any tips???

21 SATA out of 75?! Oh man! I hate those suckers!
  20. Failed NCLEX: My Story

I feel for you. I know you can do this. My school also uses the ATI, I just got 74 on my comprehensive predictor which is 95% to pass NCLEX. You've got me worried now. 76% is 99-100 so I hope to improve my score by 2% for the next time I take it. Yo...
  21. I feel so much better about the time it takes me to pass my meds now. Thanks everyone. :) Gotta say I have never heard of anyone giving ALL the 3-11 meds at the same time. That nurse needs a license revoked. UNSAFE! In some cases that is doubling up...
  22. My NCLEX Experience.......

    Congratulations!
  23. Lets share information and pass this test!!!

Know your serum drug levels for those meds that can cause toxicity! You want to know normal range and also know basic dosages. Lithium Digoxin Dylantin/phenytoin Vancomycin Phenobarbitol Theophylline Quinidine to name a few.
  24. realnursealso/LPN, I could NOT AGREE MORE! djsugar, I'm glad to hear you never pre-pour THAT is 100% unacceptable. It sounds to me like we suspected at the beginning....You just have WAY too many patients!
  25. I wrote a long reply and then deleted it. My reply is this, GET A NEW JOB! I had a position like that ONCE, there are better jobs out there you just have to look. That is way too many patients for one nurse. It is a med error waiting to happen!! If I...
