  1. Herzing University FNP program?

This program is now CCNE accredited as of yesterday. I was wondering if there is anyone who is currently in this program or if anyone has any opinions on it (besides the "FNP should not be online" opinions). This program seems to be something that ...
  2. Scheduling/Vacations?

I am an NP in MN. Started with 4 weeks vacation. I am the only NP in my group so my workload gets divided between 15 docs when I am off. Planning 10 day trip this spring
  3. Nephrology NPs

Nursebyfaith - I feel like I was able to negotiate a pretty good salary. I worked hard to make a name for myself while I was working in dialysis. Because of that, I was actively recruited by two groups. I was able to get 9K more per year than the las...
  4. Nephrology NPs

I backed out of inpatient for now. I still have a lot to learn for CKD and bone/stone clinic. To answer you questions about experience and orientation, I was an RN in HD for 9 yrs. As for orientation. ..about 4 hours lol! Baptism by fire!
  5. Nephrology NPs

Wow Trauma, that's a busy practice! We have 12 MDs, I am the only NP, no PAs. 312 dialysis pts (this covers HHD, PD as well). Most of our clinics are within in one county. I cover calls for all dialysis pts, have .5 day in CKD clinic and .5 day in ...

  7. Nephrology NPs

Im still new so am only rounding in one unit with 125-130 patients. I spend 4 days a week rounding on HD pts and last month made 297 visits. Now, as Trauma said, when I expand to more clinics, I will not make as many visits. It just isn't possible.
  8. Herzing University FNP program?

It depends on the requirements for the BON in WA. I would check with them
  9. Herzing University FNP program?

Yes. Mostly papers. Some tests, and they have now added the requirements of taping and submitting your advanced assessment.
  10. Suggestions on possible NP job offer

I was an RN in dialysis for 10 years, so I really know the ropes. My group is starting me with 130 patients who are all in one unit. This should be very manageable since I know the job and will be treating the same patients I had as a nurse....what y...
  11. Calling all NP's in Minnesota

I am going to be starting a FNP program through Herzing University in January and we are in charge of finding all of our own preceptors. I am having a very hard time finding NP's who are willing to take this on and I need at least 3 of my rotations ...
  12. Herzing University FNP program?

It is a work in progress. The pass rate for the boards seems to be about 60% at this time. I did well, but only because I spent a lot of time self teaching. Since then, they have added more resources to aid in the success of their students, but th...
  13. Herzing University FNP program?

I did find enough preceptors in the end, but it was scary at times not knowing if I would be able to continue or not. As far as I know, they are still not helping locate preceptors and 51% of your hours need to be with a NP, the others can be PA/MD/...
  14. NP Salary

Started as RN 2006 @ $25/hr. Left RN this year at $32/hr Starting wage as NP $102k salary Nephrology clinic MN
  15. Herzing University FNP program?

Bave - it's really getting better and we now have a new dean who seems promising. I know there are at least two students from TX who will be practicing in Tx so you should be okay there. They are offering more and more things each semester...one bei...

What have you tried so far?
  19. Seeking advice regarding Ultrafiltration rates

I work in a similar unit to yours and it can be very frustrating. First of all, make sure you document! Secondly, reevaluate the EDW. Does it need to be changed, does the patient show signs of fluid overload? With BPs like that, the pt may be dry a...

  22. As the Holidays Approach, Remember the Dialysis Patients!

  23. Renal physicians meeting for APNs July 2014

I'm still thinking about it. Let me know when you register
  24. Dialysis and Renal Nursing

The NP in group 1 is retiring and I will be taking her place. At this time, she only does CKD education so the are reformatting the NP position for me. Many of the docs, as well as the NP, I have worked with for almost 10 years, so I would say turn...
  25. Dialysis and Renal Nursing

Trauma, Group 1 has 12 docs, two of whom only do research so I guess 10 that see patients. The hospital offers $2800 annually for CME and licensure renewal expenses. Plus, they offer weekly lunches with lectures for CME twice weekly. The bone and m...
