  1. First of all, You need to enjoy the journey of nursing! It's not something you jump all over the place in or with. NO employer will respect those decisions! Think about it, before you become MEDSURG certified, you need to have worked 2000hrs, have a certin amount of CEUs (Continued Education Credits or hours) before you can sit for it. This means that all positions in nursing takes at least 2 years before you can be deemed compitent. Infact a wise nurse once told me that you will be a new nurse for at least 2 years. I worked on Medsurg for a year and a few months, I transfered to an outpatient clinic (Oncology) and so far............IT'S VERY BUSY!!! Sometimes I wish I stayed a bit longer inpatient because I miss bedside. I miss being there for my patient. In outpatient I hardly get to use my steth! where as I assessed all the time in-patient. In-patient you know how many patients your gonna have and it's consistent (most of the time) you might have a discharge or two and get one or two back, but that's it Out-patient areas, you have more, and they all may come at the same time, dispite having a schedule to adhere to! learn your skills! Learn to be a nurse Participate in a code or two be a Charge nurse on your unit see the bigger picture THEN TALK ABOUT JUMPING!!! This career takes time I suggest you take time with it!
  2. Okay guys, What's the deal with this specialty? 1) Is there a demand? 2) Anybody currently practicing wished they had done NP instead? 3) Anybody currently praciticing love they job? why?.....Hate it? why? 4) With DNP programs growing, what do you forsee the future for CNS being? Thanks for your input ladies and gents Visuals~
  3. Intresting Zenmen must be one of those old "eat their young" types. Didn't know it happens online too It's okay, as a young new nurse, there is lots to learn and lots to navigate, I have no doubt you'll make the best decision for you and become a great practicioner Cheers Visuals~
  4. I've been a Med/Surg nurse for a year now, and it was a productive year, I thank God for the blessings and the oppurtunities I got to learn. Looking forward, I would like to explore whats next. Nursing Informatics is one of those options having had a A.S.S in Information Systems. When I research the position, it says that you can start off with 90K I live in the NYC area, what is the "real" medium salary starting range? What's the lowest you know of? Whats the highest you know of? Thanks guys Visuals~
  5. Guys, So I'm a new grad and a new nurse....I am going to pursue an advance practice degree but I can't help but think about which other degree would compliment by BSN, Business? MSN? Law? Do you guys know of anyone who didn't necessarily do an advance practiced degree in nursing but went back to school and did their graduate degree in something that would compliment nursing? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated Cheers Visuals~
  6. An NP? I am considering Advance practice but I'm not sure what area to pursue CNS? NP Informatics? I want to still have patient contact, but I know for a fact I will not be able to handle floor nursing forever. Why did you become an NP? Any insight will be helpful Thanks Visuals
  7. Thanks guys.. this was helpful
  8. Hey guys, Recently passed my boards and now I am looking for work. Just a tad bit concerned about clinical questions that interviewers may ask you. I know it sometimes depends on the floor, but I thought it would be fun to find out what clinical questions you had on your interview. Be sure to include the weird questions too. Thanks guys
  9. I retook the test today..... I studied from the Saunders book and did the saunders CD questions.. The last time I took it it took me the entire 6 hours to do only 219 questions... At the end of it I was defeated!!! This time I did 75 questions in 55 mins! I got up and everyone looked around like I was crazy!! I don't have official results but did the pearson vue trick and I'm getting the passing "prompt" THank you Jesus Thank you everyone on here!! Bless
  10. I did Kaplan and failed the first time too. Kaplan DOES NOT PREPARE YOU at all!!! Buy a saunders 4th Edition and read it from cover to cover! answer the questions.. THat should take about 2 weeks depending on your time. Then answer the questions on the CD... do then questions at a time and what ever you got wrong, go to the section in the saunders book and read it... I took it again today... Did the pearson trick and it didn't take me to the pay part (which means you failed) I did 75 questions in less than an hour!
  11. That's sooo funny....you're right...It doesn't stop asking you the same thing unless you get it right...I kept saying in my mind I did over 1000 Q bank questions and didn't see this... why don't you ask me one of those 1000 questions that were similar... It never happened! Well.... That's done and life goes on I'm not sure if I even want to log on to Kaplan anymore Any other methods of studying for this? I need something that works because I now feel like I need to pick up my fundamentals text book and start from page one to be successful and I know I don't have to do that... So what do I do?
  12. I felt totally lost too.... I did Kaplan but I realized that that method works only when it applies and MOST QUESTIONS REQUIRE YOU TO KNOW ABOUT THAT TOPIC.. then the stratgery works (Maybe) thing was that I got topics that I kinda skipped over and TONS AND TONS of med questions repeated over and over every other question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How come some people only get a few and then some non at all?? Mind you it's not like these were the common stuff you read about.... it was toally random packs of ****! I did Kaplan (Been there done that...) I need to revise all my content.......... It sucks! and hurts
  13. guys!! I did the trick! it lets me pay.....
  14. Took it today............got to 219, time ran out! I felt like I was taking a pharmacology exam I had drugs for every other question....it was sooo unfair I don't have my official results... but I did do the pearsonvue thing! I did Kaplan and got 58% on both Trainers 6 and 7 Now what!? I felt like all the stuff I saw on the exam I never even studied.......I focused on the usual diseases that Kaplan's questions presented to me....Addisons, Thyroidism all that good stuff.... The exam game me only drugs, calculations, and some other disease How do I prepare for round 2? How do I pick myself up? How? Thanks:scrying:
  15. I have one question guys!!! I live in NY I take the NCLEX on Saturday (Aug 8th) How soon after I finish the exam may I check PearsonVue for the "trick results"? Can I go home right after and do it? 24 hours after? Talk to me! Cheers
  16. Thanks for your vote of confidence!!! it means soooo much!! I did take the live class (although I didn't go much cuz the professor sucked soo much tail) The readiness was the same.....58% lol That's my threshold for some reason!
  17. Not kissing..... Here's the deal...I have the big day in a few days and I'm wondering if I should reschedule!! I'm right on the 60% boarder of where Kaplan suggests I should be... Don't wanna really cancel cuz I'm tried of this BS and I want my life back... Talk to me Question Trainer 6 = 59% 60% correct on Application 55% correct on Analysis Question Trainer 7 = 58% 54% correct on Application 63% correct on Analysis
  18. What is the Pop Up suppose to mean?
  19. Hello guys, Happy Holidays to all!! ;) Okay, so I'm starting NYU this spring and Im very nervous to say the least. Part of that is because of the unknown. Are there any NYU attendees here? Can anyone shed some light as to what I should look out for or expect during my first semester? Life experiences is your best teacher~ Cheers Visuals~
  20. Hey Drizzle and the rest:) I will be happy to meet with you all... (providing I decide to go) Im in the regular BSN track however In anycase stll looking forward to it. I sent my deposit back but no dates yet either.. Hey Driz got your PM ( running off to study for Chem Final ) reponse soon;)
  21. I wouldn't have it any other way...Im not a nurse yet but I love working with and around women;) You feel like the "alpha male" of a pride... DID I JUST SAY THAT?? lol Just kidding...Most of my pre-req classes are mostly women and its cool when your one of two or three men in the class...Women also have a different type of dicipline toward work that I admire and strive for...I have that as well but its cool to learn from a differnet view point.. My study groups would usually be all women which would contribute to my getting an A in that class because they would know allot If your in NY and in a CNA program, chances are there are males in your class as more and more men opt for nursing and general health care.
  22. Got it Drizzle:) And yes anyone else going to NYU's regular BSN track program in addition to the accelerated program? Looking for study budies, spear shoulders to cry on, etc etc Cheers Visuals~
  23. Congrats....!!!!!!!!!!!! I too got into NYU for this fall semester and I'm just as scared as your are in terms of loans and financial aid. I haven't firmed up everything yet but I did repond to them saying that I accept. Im waiting to see what the total cost of my education will be.... Congrats and good luck. We all need prayer and luck;)
  24. thanks for the response grandma that's the thing i don't have the doe, i'll have to get loans.. something i never ever wanted to do i graduated with an a.a.s in programming in 2003 and since then i've been taking pre-reqs slowly but surely for different school with much disappointment. nyu have accepted me but i'm just scared.. because of cost and completion.
  25. Thank you Sammi15...I will check it out and keep everyone posted. Cheers
