I've been a Med/Surg nurse for a year now, and it was a productive year, I thank God for the blessings and the oppurtunities I got to learn. Looking forward, I would like to explore whats next.
Nursing Informatics is one of those options having had a A.S.S in Information Systems.
When I research the position, it says that you can start off with 90K
I live in the NYC area, what is the "real" medium salary starting range?
What's the lowest you know of?
Whats the highest you know of?
Thanks guys

Greetings Visuals,
Not sure where you got the figure of a 90K starting salary from?
Salaries depend on the level of experience, educational requirements and the geographical location of the position.
You might start your research my taking a look at the HIMSS salary surveys and HIMSS NI surveys done in the past.
Some anadotal data - in Chicago, IL. 14 years ago my first NI role payed 30K. My current role is nationally based and pays over 120K. I attribute this salary to my background, experience and negotiating skills.
You wrote about researching "the position". Since there are numerous positions or roles within this specialty I'm very curious as to what tools you are using to accomplish this?
Please share.

85,000 in chicago, new to informatics, but have a lot of clinical experience. I feel I took a low offer but I wanted to get my foot in the door.

74K in Louisiana. I'm content though, basically making the amount a float pool nurse would.

I am interviewing for a Meditech Clinical Applications Analyst position in Maryland, close to Washington D.C. I live several hours away and have no idea what the salary range is for an entry-level position within that geographical area. Does anyone have experience in this area of the country? I am looking for realistic figures, and not just what you find on the salary searches. I need to state a required salary and don't want to blow my opportunity due to poorly understood salary requirements.
Look at the HIMSS Nursing Informatics salary survey just completed this year. It provides national stats on our specialty including salary and is much more than just a salary search.

Salem OR salary range 63-90K. I saw a job posting for a hospital in Portland with an hourly range of 25-60/hr. But I'm assuming that the upper range would have a pretty significant amount of leadership responsibilities tied to it.
stephenfnielsen,
Thanks for the information. I can see there is a broad range throughout the country.

If you find a good agency to represent you and you are able to travel, starting wages for consulting can range from 85K to 110K.
