  1. Navy Nurse Candidate Program

I was wondering if there was anyone on here who could give me some info on the Navy's nurse candidate program? I am 34, a nursing student, and married to a career Marine. I think it would be an awesome opportunity to serve our country and also mainta...
  2. Navy Nurse Candidate Program

They also told me that they won't accept any BSN that has been done on line, it has to be done in person. In case anyone was wondering. I'm curious about that. I've heard both yes and no on the online programs. Personally, the nurse recruiter I spoke...
  3. Navy Nurse Candidate Program

Slowrunner...if your BF is still interested, tell him to check back in the fall. There are a limited number of slots available in the program, but new slots are available at the beginning of each fiscal year (October).
  4. Navy Nurse Candidate Program

It has to be a BSN...but if you go back to school, you would most likely be eligible for the NCP. Good luck to you! My hubby is an AD Marine also. :)
  5. Thank you! :)

  9. Stethoscope cleaning

    Alcohol wipes here too... :nuke:
  10. How often do you get sick?

I am completely envious of all of you. I am sick constantly, courtesy of my kids. I can't tell you the last time I was actually the one to catch something and bring it home to the family...but the kids bring home germs from school and I catch everyt...
  11. Navy NCP and Online Degrees

While reading up on the Navy NCP, I have found a couple posters stating that online programs, including the Indiana State LPN to BSN option, might not be acceptable for the program. I asked my recruiter who indicated any program that was NLN or CCNE ...
  12. Navy Nurses Stationed with the USMC

Are any Navy nurses currently (or ever been in the past) stationed with the Marines? I'm married to an active duty career Marine and am hoping to go into the Navy Nurse Corps. I'm just curious about the experience of being stationed with the Marines...
  13. Navy NCP and Online Degrees

Congrats on passing!! That's my plan, although I won't be ready to start my package until next summer. I have been trying forever to get a spot for the RN program, but our school only admits 12 students per YEAR, and they're selected by lottery out o...
  14. Navy Nurses Stationed with the USMC

Thanks... any chance you would be willing to expound on that a little? Such as what is the situation you would encounter by being stationed with division as opposed to the hospital? I know you can be assigned to certain units and if these deploy, you...
  15. Navy NCP and Online Degrees

Yes...I emailed a nurse recruiter out of NRD New England. I asked specifically about the ISU program and her response was this: "You can apply for the NCP if the program is an accredited program by the NLN or CCNE."
  16. Curiosity: NET Test Scores

I just took the NET this week and scored a 86 composite, which was 96th percentile. Individually, I got 81 percent on math, and 91 percent on reading. This gave me a grade equivalence of "post high school." What I'm curious about is, we only needed a...
  17. I went to a day class in September-October 2006. My instructor was awesome.
  18. Pain in childbirth 'a good thing'

I did not read the article, but from my birthing experiences, I would say labor pain was beneficial. With my first, I was younger, scared to death, and begged for an epidural the moment they would give me one because I was terrified of feeling any pa...
  19. Tossing Your Cookies...

I have to second (or third!) sputum. I don't even know why it makes me want to vomit because it's by far not the grossest thing I've ever seen, but it does.
  20. I don't work at UCLA, but my son had surgery there this past year and I think they have become my dream job. :) Amazing facility, and every single physician and nurse we dealt with was fabulous. They definitely deserve their #3 rating.
  21. Volunteering as an RN?

Our Red Cross (in a military town) accepts healthcare providers of all stripes (doctors, nurses, cna/techs, dental assistants) for volunteer opportunities at the Naval Hospital. :)
  22. New Navy Uniforms

OP, I'm a USMC wife, but I know the nurse practitioners, etc., that we see at the naval clinic wear the service khaki, versus scrubs. http://www.new-navy-uniform.com/picture-nsu.html I'm not really sure if they do something different for a regular fl...
  23. NET Test Study Guide

Does anyone have a copy of the NET Test Study Guide from ERI that they want to get rid of? I tried to buy one off the site but keep getting an error on the order page, and can't find one on eBay or my local library. Anyone?
  24. What would be more beneficial, CNA or EMT?

I've done both and would definitely recommend CNA, given the choice between the two. I got to do more medical things as an EMT, but I didn't feel like I did much in the way of actual nursing skills.
  25. Yes...you're absolutely right. I acquiesced the point about the BSN specificity. :) :) The main point I was getting at from the start is that it's standard procedure to require a bachelors degree in order to become an officer. I just noticed, however...
