  1. I am currently working as a nurse manager at a SNF. I have the option to wear either scrubs or business casual. I'm just trying to get a feel for what might be preferable. What are others' experiences? Have you noticed if one seems to be preferable over the other? Does it affect how that particular manager is viewed in any way?
  2. I wasn't in the position long enough to get any reviews. Reviews in previous positions had all been "exceptional" but that was with a different management team, back when the work environment was more friendly and less high-strung, toxic and hostile. Maybe all that can be done is just accept that she was better suited to the job and works better in a high pressure, cut throat environment than I do.
  3. My mom asked me, "Silverbells, why would you want to keep a job that resulted in you needing to increase your antidepressants, increase the number of therapy sessions needed and result in you needing to take FMLA?"
  4. If I'm being honest, focusing on Queen Bee takes the focus off my own problems.
  5. Probably because she has something I want--a place she belongs. She naturally received compliments and recognition from upper management, where I felt like I had to "fish" for any of mine.
  6. We were both case managers. I was slightly higher up than she was, with me being an RN and her being an LPN. However, by the way she acted, you would have thought she was my supervisor.
  7. At the end of the day, all I know is that Queen Bee ? is going to make it. Queen Bee ? will be fine. As for myself, I have no idea
  8. Doesn't matter how many lessons Queen Bee or I need to learn. The only one who will walk out a winner is Queen Bee
  9. A Comprehensive Lesson Plan for Queen Bee: 1. Effective Communication with Others -Respectfully addressing the concerns of others -Communicating own concerns with others in a way that respects the dignity of others -Learning to listen without interruption -Monitoring tone of voice during communication 2. Time Management -Developing methods to ensure arrival to work on time -Prioritizing to ensure that essential work is being completed -Arriving to meetings on time -Focusing on own work rather than the work of others 3. Humility -Acknowledging the strengths of others -Acknowledging the weaknesses of oneself -Recognizing that one is not better than anyone else -Remembering the reason why one entered nursing -Focus more on the patient rather than being pretentious (wearing dressy clothes that interfere with patient care, avoiding patient care as much as possible, instructing staff to "just work short," etc)
  10. In a sense, job #2 reminds me of when I was in my previous rehab position. They mention a lot of admissions and discharges. It was salary. My mom asked me,"Was that too much for you? You were always there very late"
  11. Regardless Queen Bee will probably never learn the lessons she needs to learn
  12. I think being fired could be an excellent experience for Queen Bee. She can go work in a small town and learn a lesson or two regarding being humble.
  13. My old job has already found a replacement for me. Gotta love the feeling of being replaced...
  14. It may come across as a surprise that I have actually taken allnurses.com members' advise and have accepted the first job ?
  15. LOL, if there is one thing that I can say, it's that I haven't been dishonest on Allnurses regarding my thoughts or feelings. Maybe a bit too honest at times.
  16. Honestly, this is probably the worst thing to have happened to me. This is just proof that my coworker is once and for all "The Beloved Queen Bee"
  17. The best day of my life will be when I see that the Queen Bee is no longer employed at this company. I fear this day may never come.
  18. One of those instances where it is obvious that life favors some people more than others, For some reason, she has found favor not only with the facility, but life in general. She knows how good she is. She knows how superior she is. She knows she can do what she wants, when she wants, because things will work out favorably for her, both in her professional and personal lives. She has intelligence and skills that far exceed those of most people and uses that to her advantage. By being extremely "competent,” she has earned the right to be arrogant, demanding, cocky, demeaning and to be able to work wherever she wants, whenever she wants. She is the facility's Beloved Queen Bee. No one can do things as well as the Queen Bee, as no one can ever achieve the level of perfection that she has. And that is likely why she is allowed to continue to work there.
  19. I just don't understand why they want to keep someone like her around while losing other good employees
  20. I believe that with some of these apartments you cannot reside in them if you make above a certain amount. I have/had also been looking at houses, but just trying to keep options open. Some of the houses are in a flood zone, which was why I was trying to expand my options. The town I would be moving to would be very small, so I'm not sure how exhilarating it might be. But it probably would be good to move out. I actually haven't ever been married. I was in a steady relationship a few years back, but that didn't end up working out.
  21. Would it be best to apply to a position on a unit that you feel comfortable with? I would think that if you are part of a float team, you should be able to work on any unit they assign (unless otherwise specified in your job description). Having a permanent unit to go to could help you avoid this.
  22. Good point. I had attempted to try and present both pros and cons for each position, but I may have let a little bias slip through for the one that is closer to home. There's not much for housing in the town for job #1, although there are a few townhomes for rent that might be nice if I can get into them. A lot of the apartments are income based, and at $44/hr, I wouldn't qualify for any of those.
  23. Anyone ever have one of those coworkers that irk you to the point that you'd like to see them fail? I normally don't feel that way, but lately I've been harboring a lot of resentment for one of my coworkers. This person is very cruel, and yet our former workplace absolutely loves her. This lady often told me that if I can't do my job, don't do it. She often talked about how great she was. She would frequently mention that she's worked so hard to develop processes and the rest of us are just "messing things up." She believes and acts as if she's God's gift to the world and often has nothing but snide, sarcastic remarks for others. I would love for her to receive a taste of her own medicine. I would love for her to make a big mistake. Not one that harms a patient, but one that makes her realize she is no angel and she's not perfect. In addition to being cruel, she is demanding and expects everyone to accommodate her schedule. It's okay for her to show up late or leave work early, but if someone else does the same thing, you'd better watch out because she'll let you know what she thinks. Frankly, I resent that she's able to get away with so much b-crap and remain employed. She doesn't deserve her job. I'd love for her to mess up so that she ends up jobless. Who else has felt this way about a coworker?
  24. Yes, the pay increase is great...but how are they going to pay if they're already known to have financial issues?
  25. How concerned should I be that the first facility is under state receivership due to financial issues?
