  1. So, I failed out of my ADN program twice at one school. I'm starting again at another school in May. May to August (I believe?) is an online LPN to RN seminar kind of thing, where they catch you up to speed to the RN semesters. I did this kind o...

    IV skills course?

Some jobs do it too! My job did it via an outside pharmacy company. So now I am IV certified (despite being an LPN, which is allowed in Massachusetts).
  5. Hi, I've had a history of getting let go from jobs, for reasons such as not getting up to speed fast enough, and not knowing certain protocols. I've also got a verbal warning from my first/PRN job for writing a note wrong during state inspection...

Should I take a $9.00 cut in pay for new job?

I had a similar situation. I was making $34 an hour at my per diem job, but went to a doctor's office job and took a $12 pay cut. I loved the job, but the financial hit (and drive) were just too much to handle. I ended up going back to that per diem ...

Responsibilities of RN in nursing home in NJ

Same here in MA, I am a supervisor, and both LPNs and RNs do assessments and admissions. I am an LPN as well. All of our unit managers are all LPNs aside from one RN.

Responsibilities of RN in nursing home in NJ

This is what happened to me overnights, except I'm an LPN. I used it as a buff for my resume, which helped me get a nursing supervisor job at another facility. It can definitely be hard, but maybe you can use it to your advantage. I also think ...

HELP!! Cant figure out what I wanna do!!

As someone who got many jobs and left them/got fired by them, I understand how you feel. If you aren't happy, find another specialty. It can be hard. Do you prefer in-patient or out-patient? Or which did you like more? I think that's a good ste...
  10. I've just accepted a position at a new skilled facility (to me) as a nursing supervisor. I've been the overnight supervisor at my current job, but it's been very lax. I've helped with scheduling, overlooked the nurses and CNAs, helped with any immedi...

What makes a good nursing supervisor?

Just wanted to update you all, The job's been going great so far! We've had some tough nights, some great. Regardless, I love the job so far. Haven't been on a med cart yet (luckily), but I'm still ready to do it when the time comes. I will be p...

    Patients Filming You

Let me put it in perspective for anyone working a regular job, not even nursing related: Would someone working in a regular office be okay with the public watching them do their job, against their will? A common man doing a common 9-5 job, watch...
  13. Thank you so much! That sounds wonderful! I wish you luck with it. I've only had aortic. I have found that stress and exhaustion at work does trigger cardiac symptoms, such as my heart rate going up. That's great! I hope you can get it!

Metoprolol: A Comprehensive Overview for Nurses

Wonderful article, Beth! I do have a question. In the nursing home, I've seen succinate given with and without regard to BP/HR, with no parameters. Is a BP/HR check vital to the long acting? I've personally never seen a difference with suc...

How Hard Is Nursing School in 2023?

Wonderful article. After failing out in the last semester of an ADN program, I've learned a lot and changed studying tactics for a new school. I got accepted to another ADN program for Fall of 2024, LPN to RN. I'm hoping to meet great professors, cla...

Advice for a new grad working in med-surg?

Congrats!! What I've been doing for my new supervisor job is get a notepad and write all my notes on it, such as how to do this, how to do that etc. Then I put it into a cute new small notepad, that way I can throw out the big papers and keep the lit...
  17. Oh my goodness. I had an aortic valve replacement surgery in 2021!! Who knew we were so similar. It seems like you've roughed out your issues so far. It's so much to deal with. I'm so glad you got so far in your career and now you're looking int...

Can an LPN get GERO-BC certification?

This is exactly something I've been looking for!! Thank you so much!!
  20. Thank you all so much. You're all so wonderful. I take to heart every comment. I talked with my therapist about it this morning, and I made an earlier appointment with my psychiatrist as well. Also, TriciaJ, I am a boy. 😛 🙂

Can an LPN get GERO-BC certification?

Thank you for your prompt response, Beth! I do plan on getting my RN in the next few years, anyways. I'll look into the GERO-BC eventually! I will look into the wound care certification as well. Thank you!!
  22. You feel my pain! LOL 🙂 My boss has told me that if there is a problem, she will come straight to me without beating around the bush. She is very kind and genuine. I'm not worried about the staff not communicating well, I guess it's just my inte...
  23. Thank you so much Hppy. I will get an order for bloodwork to see if anything has changed. My sleep is average, as well as sleep. I haven't done grounding in quite awhile. I'll look into it again. Thank you!
  24. I'm gonna say the one that no one wants to hear...long term care/dementia/rehab. They teach you vital nursing skills quickly, and even tend to pay better. I recommend giving it a chance or a thought.
  25. Interesting. Did we ever find out what happened from her side of the story? Not that it changes anything, but this is intriguing.
