    NICU Temp Probes

Hello! I was wondering about different NICU policies regarding temp probes for Giraffe isolettes. I was taught that the temp probe should always be placed over the liver or over the flank if baby is prone. I have noticed that many people are still placing probes underneath the axilla. What is your unit's policy regarding probe placement? Does your unit use Mepitac to secure probes to the skin or the reflective temp probe covers as pictured in the link below? Thanks! https://www.cardinalhealth.com/en/product-solutions/medical/woman-and-baby/neonatal-intensive-care/temperature-probe-covers.html

    NICU Nurse Resources

Hey everyone! I have recently passed NCLEX and am very excited to be beginning my dream job in the NICU in a few weeks. I am planning on purchasing the Merenstein & Gardner's Handbook of Neonatal Intensive Care textbook as I begin orientation on the unit. I noticed that a new edition of the textbook is scheduled to be released next month so I am waiting to purchase the newest edition when it is released. In the mean time, are there any blogs or other online resources that may have valuable NICU related information so that I can start preparing before I start my job? Thanks in advance

    Interview Follow Up

I interviewed last week for a new grad nurse position on my dream unit. After the interview, I promptly sent thank you emails to the nurses that I interviewed with. I was not given a timeline for when I should expect to hear back regarding a potential offer and I forgot to ask this during the interview. Today, I received an email response to my initial thank you email. The response was, "It was nice to meet you. You will be hearing from nurse recruitment once decisions have been made." Although this is a vague response, would you typically see this response as a positive or negative reply? Thanks!

    UNC New Grad Nurse Residency

Hello! I was wondering if anyone has applied to and heard anything back from UNC regarding their new graduate nurse residency program for January-March 2020 start dates. All of my applications are either "under review" or "resume acknowledged." Thanks :)

    Emailing Nurse Recruiters

Hello! I am currently in the last semester of my BSN program and planning to graduate in December 2019. I applied for a position a couple of weeks ago at the hospital where I would love to work on the exact day the application was posted online. The job posting has since been removed from the hospital website. However, on the job portal page where I am able to track the status of my application, the job status still shows "active, still taking applications" and the submission status shows "under consideration." My question is...is it frowned upon to send an email to the nurse recruiter and further inquire about the job? The job posting was only online for a few days before it was removed. Even though the job portal still says the job status is active, I am unsure about if this is accurate or not since the posting is no longer available. Thanks in advance!

    HESI Pocket Prep App

I would definitely say to review the basics of all of the body systems, especially nervous & cardiovascular systems. I remember specific questions regarding bone structure/functions, arteries (subclavian, carotid, etc.), spinal cord attachment, anaerobic respiration, & skin color contributing factors. I would study special senses as well such as vision, hearing, etc. In addition to the Pocket Prep app, I watched Crash Course A&P Videos (VERY helpful) and viewed powerpoints from the Biology Corner link below and took notes! HESI Pocket Prep App

Hello everyone! The school that I am applying for requires a minimum score of 75 on the Biology, Vocabulary, Reading, Math, and A&P Sections of the HESI A2. I took the exam in May and did very well on all sections except A&P, where I did not achieve the score that I needed. I was overconfident about the A&P section going in to take the HESI and did not properly review like I needed to for that section. I am scheduled to retake the HESI exam on Monday. I took A&P II over the summer so I have been reviewing my notes and using other resources to prepare for the A&P Section. I have been using the Pocket Prep App for a few months now and I am doing well on the A&P Practice Questions. For those who have passed the A&P section on the HESI and used the Pocket Prep App (The white and purple iPhone app)--how similar would you say the questions are in comparison to the actual HESI? From your experience, was the Pocket Prep questions any easier, more difficult, or about the same? Were the questions asked in the same format? Any information would be very helpful just so I know what to expect going in to take the exam! Thanks for your help!!
