and the problem is..........?

Published

This thread is along the lines of patient lingo, but I have to share complaints I have heard this week.

Girl comes in and states "I stopped taking my birth control pills 3 days ago and now i'm bleeding".......

Elderly man chief complaint "I had leg cramps last night and now my bowels are locked up"......huh?

Woman with c/o fever. When asked if she had taken anything for the fever.......she replies "I haven't taken any pills, but i've done all the other things you're supposed to do to bring your fever down. I've drank a coke and some unsweetened tea, I smoked a menthol cigarette, and I cried......but just regular tears. I couldn't make any acid tears"...........(did i miss that day in nursing school?)

:chuckle :roll

When I gave a patient the results of their chlamydia/gonorrhea screen, she actually stated, "I'm glad I have chlamydia and not gonorrhea"!!!! Can you believe it?

Ok, this thread sorta proves my point and smiling blue eyes (aka Deb) point about the danger of putting the morning after pill OTC.

My fave answer to the allergies question:

Pt: "I can't take percocet"

Me: "What happens when you take percocet?"

Pt: "Oh! They knock me out!"

Me: "They're supposed to, they're narcotics."

Pt: "Either way, I don't like them."

or the pt that is deathly allergic to tylenol - but percocet works for them ?!?!?!?!?!?

OR...the patient is deathly allergic to Vicodin, but Lorcet 10/650 works real well.

Not one person EVER has EVER had a bad outcome from the morning after pill, and one can get it (thankfully) OTC in some pharmacies in California. Nausea is the worst that will happen. Take a Benadryl.

But MANY have (later) been harmed by grown offspring from unwanted pregnancies...

spread the word to the laypeople...the morning after pill is NOT the abortion pill. it prevents pregnacy (fertiliziation), it does not terminate it...

I think we are taking care of the same people...

They are just travelling form state to state...

Torturing ER nurses across the land.

:chuckle

I work in a Cardiology office while I'm going through nursing school and I had a patient once tell me to make sure the doctor checked the "dispense as written" box on her script because she was allergic to all generic medications!":D

oh...

and about the morning after pill...

most of our ER docs won't prescribe it...

(it is still the dark ages here!)

but if you go to planned parenthood's website...your patients can order it on line.

gotta love the worldiwideweb!
