Hello... Was wondering about follow Floridians preparing for the hurricane.
I am in OCala, which is north central florida.. Went to the store tonight and boy..... NO BREAD, NO WATER, NO CANNED FOOD, NO BATTERIES in nearly any stores in our area... finally found what I wanted after several stops... No gas in most stations. Hurricane is expected to hit Florida saturday. It will be even harder to get gas tomorrow as the storm gets closer. Our busiest streets have businesses all boarded up, and the schools are closed for tomorrow.
I have several home care patients to see tomorrow, and hope I can get more gas after I end my day. It seems so strange that the day is so hot and beautiful, yet there is a viscious monster out there that will devastate many lives and homes in a short time.
Courious how the preparation is taking place in your part of the state.....
This storm looks like it needs to be taken seriously. Around here, many people went through the preparation for Charley and it never even caused a rain drop in our area, therefore people seem to think that since Charley was not a threat, that Francis will not be either...
Francis seems furocious!! God Bless all who are preparing for this one....
I'm here in Central Florida right outside of Daytona and our stores around here have been out of batteries since the beginning of the week. If you get lucky and get to the stores at the right time (right when they are unloading a truck, you can get water), but most of our stores are out of everything. I have to work the 7p-7a shift tonight at our hospital and was told to bring enough clothes to last until Monday because you might not be able to leave. Oh well, just hope everything goes okay!!!

I have a best friend who lives in Jupiter that didn't get out with the evacuation. No gas, major traffic, worried that they would get hit while sitting in the car somewhere. Have been in contact at least 2 times a day for the past 2 days. I'm not there with you all, but my prayers and thoughts have been nowhere else. She is a peds ICU nurse in Miami who has been off due to an injury. Luckily, because she was part of the group that reports to duty when they are on hurricane watch and can't leave for a couple days. With an hour and a half drive, she'd be going nuts worrying about her family. Now she's hunkering down in a boarded up house, fortunately, at the highest point in Jupiter. She's a pacific northwest girl and freaking!!! I'm here in the pacific northwest, worrying as well.
I pray you all get through this safely.
I'm in Jacksonville Florida and I'm just waiting to be called because I'm on Team A. I wish this hurricane would just hurry up and get here. The slower it is, the more damage it can do and the more tornadoes it can throw out at everyone. I heard that the northeast corner of hurricanes are the worst so I'm VERY anxious and just want it over with!!
Good Luck to everyone.
Im in Orlando and scared! two hurricanes in 3 weeks.....*sigh*
My sis lives in Daytona and evacuated, she went back to our home town in TN, I couldnt go because I dont know how bad the damage will be and Im supposed to work all weekend plus I should be starting LPN school on tuesday if all is well...didnt want to risk not being here for that!
I'm in Volusia county, as are some of you. My house is boarded up, I've got my supplies, and now I'm waiting. It's crazy, to get plywood, lines were 8 hours long! No exaggeration. The biggest concern is since Hurricane Charley just passed through here a few weeks ago, is the debris. There is debris piled up everywhere on every street corner. I'm sure much of it is going to become airborne, hence the main reason for boarding up. I'm soooooooo not looking forward to going without power for another week or so. On the bright side of all this, neighborhood comraderie has really stepped up. Everyone on my block has been sharing tools to board up as well as supplies, helping those who can't board up themselves, making neighborhood runs to Home Depot, etc. I feel very close with my neighbors and know we will all be here for each other. Everyone stay safe and may God bless us all.

I was living in extreme SW Georgia when Hurricane Kate came through via Appalachicola back in '85...and the eye came RIGHT over the little town where I lived. I hunkered down with my son, who was seven years old at the time, and as the winds reached 69 MPH, he asked: "Mama, are we going to have a tornado?" We didn't have a tornado, but it was close enough!
I have an aunt and uncle who are both in their 80's, who still live down there, and am going to send my cousin an e-mail shortly, for I understand that Frances's current path will take her RIGHT over them..and where I used to live.
YA'll STAY SAFE, HEAR??
Wife and I were down in Miami Beach visiting this week. Lucky to be able to bail out of there yesterday afternoon.
Waited in the plane for over 90 minutes to get clearance, due to air traffic seeking to leave Frances behind. Captain shut down the AC to conserve fuel which was scarce, but available. Had he left the air on, we would've been expected to refuel, putting us at the back end of the queue. Cabin got pretty hot.
Traffic on 95-N was heavy duty on the way to the airport in Ft. Lauderdale. Man, those Miami area drivers are some of the more reckless I've seen... and that's from someone who grew up in the NY tri-state area.
Good thing I filled up on gas the night before too. Lines all over the place.

The news I've heard said Frances is two to three times larger than Charley. Hope all is well with you.
