Hi, currently i am an RN and 5 month pregnant but i am having pregnancy related health issues, should I resign or continue. please advice me...
Can you apply for intermittent FMLA? That way you can use it when necessary and still maintain your employment? I did this when I developed a health condition (not pregnancy related). It allowed me to take off days when my RSD was in a bad flare but continue to work when I was able. You will still have the option of going on short-term disability (if that is available to you), or even to resign, should it become necessary.
Like others have mentioned, talk to HR and explore your options there. And definitely talk to your provider and get their input. They know your situation best. (And just a side note that probably goes without saying--except to super hard headed people like myself--please carefully weigh and take your provider's advice. My neuro, cardiologist, pain mgt doc, and PCP all suggested I go on disability and I didn't listen. I continued to work for a year and a half and wound up on disability anyway and in a whole lot worse shape!)
Maybe you could try to go PRN. PRN is usually flexible with a small requirement. Chances are you'll feel good enough to at least work the minimum and you won't be completely out of a job.
On the other hand, you sound like you've already made up your mind about resigning.
Hope everything works out well.
I'm not sure that writing you're resigning due to health issues (even if only pregnancy related) is the best idea. Maybe just state you're resigning because of family circumstances or for personal reasons. The reason I say this is because once you mention "health concerns" (from my experience) it tends to follow you where ever you go. And while health issues or disabilities are not supposed to keep someone from hiring you as long as you can perform the necessary job duties, they can and often do. I may be somewhat jaded though due to my own disability, so maybe others will advise you differently.
I don't know your situation, but if you've worked there for awhile and you're in good standing, your manager may hold your job for you even if you exceed your FMLA. On the other hand, if you've been having difficulties there, they may take the opportunity to let you resign. Whether or not you'll get rehired depends upon how well you're doing, whether you burn your bridges and what their FTE status is when you're ready to return.
It is entirely up to you on whether or not you resign your position. can you afford it? Will you have health insurance if you quit? What does your husband/partner have to say about this?can anyone give me a good sample resignation letter, stating that resigning due to pregnancy related health issues and hoping my employer will rehire me. Thanks.
Will you get rehired? Maybe Maybe not. The job market is tough right now....time will tell.
Sample resignation letter I and sure you can find many on the internet or you can be creative.
HR person/manager,
It is with regret that I need to resign my position due to health concerns with my pregnancy that may cause a scheduling hardship for the unit and my coworkers. I have loved being a part of the team here at Whatever Medical Center and would like to seek future employment when my health concerns have resolved.
Thank you,
Pregnant nurse.
