I am currently about 20 weeks pregnant. My husband and I found out we were expecting the last month of my spring semester! It was a complete surprise. I am due to have a "C-Section" the last week of this coming fall semester. My finals would be the week before the last week of school, so technically I could make it through. That is if I don't go into labor early. I really don't want to take the semester off because I will definately have to take the spring off to stay home with the new baby. Has anyone gone through a semester during their last trimester? My school says I need a note from my OB saying I can attend clinical without restriction, including lifiting! I will not lose my spot if I take time off, but it will set me back and I hate to dely this any longer. Also, for the record I am in a very competitive program and the department is notorious for being extremely strict. In other words I will not get any slack from these women. Help! I need some good advice....
help someone, anyone...lol

I was about 15 or 16 weeks at the end of my last semester so I'm really of no help, lol. But I do know of moms who were due in the middle of the semester or in between semesters and they never came back....but planned on finishing eventually. The dept heads in my program are really nice and understanding, sucks you don't have the same luck. As long as you take it easy and nothing goes on, then you should be fine. However know that things do happen and if moms can get pulled out of work weeks/months early....same thing could happen in nursing school. It's tough so you just have to take it one day at a time. Good luck!

I would give you my advice, but it would probably be considered way to liberal for the majority of peoples points of view. I won't say what it is, but it rhymes with smushmorshian.

Wow...really?? She's 20 weeks pregnant and it doesn't sound like this is an unwanted pregnancy. That's a pretty rude and insensitive comment and I'm not really sure that it contributes to the OP in any way.
To the OP: I'm just starting nursing school this fall, but I've been through 3 pregnancies- I think you may be cutting it close and you'll be exhausted, but I don't think it's impossible to do this. GL!
There is a difference between being liberal and not paying attention to detail. I carried to 20 weeks so far, if I wanted an abortion I would have gotten one a long time ago. And if that was the case, this post wouldn't be an issue. Read the deatils before you pull out all the stops and go for the smushorshian comments. Lol. It did make me giggle though, weirdo.

I've seen a lot of encouraging posts on this before on here. It can be done (if everything goes right). If you won't be losing your spot it might be better not to stress yourself too much but if you need to finish earlier and you're determined then I'm sure you can do it. I'm not sure how you will get your Dr. To sign off on not restricting heavy lifting though. It seems like they could work with you more on that one. Good Luck, and congrats!

Every pregnancy is different. I think you are cutting it really close. If you aren't able to finish the term, how much money are you going to be out? Repaying for classes that you almost finished STINKS. This I can say from experience!!
With one of my kids I could have done it and with the other there would have been no way. Good luck.

You have probably been extremely "flexible" with nursing school up to this point (probably to the point of pulling out your hair) that you'll just have to be prepared to either push through or take some time off. Your baby may have more say in it than you do : )
I've seen a couple of people in my class come back after cancer treatment, death of a child, and divorce. Sometimes you just have to let life take its course.
Now that's mighty philosophical isn't it.

Well if I were u I would hope and pray that I dont go into labor and make it to the scheldued C section. I myself am in a similar situation except maybe WORSE! I have one semester left to finish this fall I would be done in dec this year but I am currently 29 weeks pregnant. School starts back August 23rd and I plan to attend until my due date October 15th take a week off and go back the following week and finish up. Of couse this is hoping and praying there are no complications with me or the baby. Some people think Im crazy and should take the semester off others think it can be done and I should try. I was planning on taking this semester off and going back in January and being done by May of next year but my school informed me I would have to remeadiate which is for students who FAILED a nursing course ( which I havent) and then start back, which would put graduation off until December of next year! I'm really anxious to finish and think thats ridiciouls so I figure I might as well try to finish up now and if I cant, the outcome would be the same in the end. Good Luck to you!!

Getting pregnant seemed like a chosen hobby in my nursing school class. I honestly lost count of the cases of baby rabies that were going around.
This happens. Talk to your advisor; they will work with you.

this is good info to know:

you probably can't miss clinicals though, as the school can't make the hospital let you back in for that. i'm not sure your reasoning for having a scheduled c-section, and it's not my business, but i would strongly encourage delaying it until at least your due date which is hopefully during your break between semesters. that way you won't miss class, and if you look into the new recommendations, ACOG is advising against non-medical c-sections. moms and babies have better outcomes with lady partsl births, if there is not a medical reason for the section :)
good luck! you can do it!
