Pre-req question

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

How long does it generally take to finish the pre-reqs for nursing school? I'm in California right now and the budget cuts are really taking a toll at my community college. Most of the classes that I need are either full or canceled, and the board recently decided to cancel winter session. I'm afraid that I'll have to stay for 3+ years. :(

It will cost more, but perhaps you can take classes online. There are many accredited schools around (I'm doing mine through ccconline). I'm really sorry about the problems CA is having, that sucks for all the students.

If you're trying to go for your BSN, then it's going to 2-3 years along with your general education/transfer requirements.

I went to a 4 year accredited nursing school in NY, and the first 2 years were designated pre-reqs. I'm sure all states work differently...just make sure the advice you're getting is from a Cali student. GOOD LUCK!!

I live in Los Angeles and it looks like if I'm lucky enough to get in the prereqs. it's going to take me a year. The courses have long waiting lists and they won't cancel.

I live in the SF Bay Area and it took me 3 years to do my prerequisites. Then again, it really depends on which school you're applying to. Different schools have different amounts of prerequisites.

it takes as long as it takes. All I have is time. I try not to think of the obstacles that will discourage me.

It took me 3 1/2 semesters to finish mine. I start nursing on the 24th!!!! Good luck to you all!

It'll take me about a full year (four, technically five quarters). Summer quarter to summer quarter. Then I apply. Applying to a variety of different colleges, so hopefully I'll get in.

I shall remember your comment as I start my journey to become an RN. I went to orientation today since classes start next week, and there are so many pre-nursing students like me trying to get on the waitlist for the ADN program at the CC I plan on attending. They only accept 60 students each fall and right now the waitlist is about about 3 years. YIKES!!! After reading your comment about not letting any obstacles discourage you is an inspiration for me to not give up no matter how long it takes me to reach my goals. Thanks!!!
