Waiting on my BIG letter.....plus have a big surprise!!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi Everyone!!! I am waiting on my big letter to find out if I am accepted into the NURSING program!! I should know by June 19.... I got an 81 composite score on the NET back in march plus I just found out I am pregnant with # 4!!!! I am 12 weeks and I was on B/C pills ( YAZ) so I am shocked to say the least but I am not going to let it stop me from pursuing my goal of becoming a nurse. My due date is Dec 16th 2008 so that would make me having the baby at the end of the 1 st semester of nursing and during Christmas break. My question is exactly how hard is the first semester( I have all my pre reqs out of the way...THANK GOD) I just want to try to prepare myself for what is to come. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Please do not "sugar coat" your responses I need the hard core facts. Thanks in advance!!!:heartbeat

I already have my NA II, PHELBOTOMY AND MED TECH license by the way;)

Congratulations on the pregnancy and good luck with getting into nursing school! I don't start nursing school until this fall so I can't say for sure how hard it will be, but what I was told by the student advisor at my school about the first semester was that it's usually the easiest but just a lot of reading and learning of the fundamentals. You should try asking someone at your school what they think, but basically I think it just comes down to whether or not you feel up to it. If you're truly committed to succeeding in nursing school then I'm sure you will. Good luck!

Congrats on the pregnancy. :yeah: I think I would send a very heated letter to the birth control company. Haha, just kidding. :chuckle Number 4, wow. I have 2 (2 1/2 yrs and 9 mts) and I was wondering how to go to school and manage kids let alone being pregnant. OMG this sounds like I am totally putting you down and i am NOT. I am very happy for you, I loved being pregnant, all the people waiting on you. :D

As far as what I have heard about nursing school & the 1st semester, it is hard. I figure they are probley hard on you the 1st semester to weed out the people that wont last. I figure if you can make it past the 1st semester you are probley good the rest of the way.

Once again, CONGRATS on the baby. Are you wishing for a boy or girl? My husband said no more kids cause we have the perfect balance in the house right now and he is scared that we will have another girl and he will be out numbered. :jester:

(I wanted to use lots of smily faces today, sorry)

Congratulations on the new addition! I can't imagine going through all of this with 3 kids and one on the way! You are super human!!!

I have heard the same things as the previous entry... the first semester and the last semester of nursing school are supposed to be the worst! I agree that it is probably to weed out the students that just really won't cut it! I am so nervous about it all, and I am hoping that I can carry it out... but you make me believe more in our ability as woman to achieve everything we want and more!

Again congrats, and good luck!

Congrats on baby #4! I too am starting this Fall so I can't really give hardcore truth as to what to expect in your first semester, but I agree with Bayley. From what I've heard the first semester is probably the easiest because you don't get into the meat of the matter yet, if you get what I mean.

But definately ask around at your school and see what others experiences are. I've never heard of Nursing schools weeding people out by making classes harder, but I suppose that depends on the school you're hoping to get into. The school that I chose pretty much assured me that everyone wants to see everyone pass, even though some do decided at some point that it isn't for them.

I'll be faced with a challenge myself, I'm expecting my 3rd child to be born some time in the next couple of days/weeks so I'll be handling a 3 1/2 yr old, 1 1/2 yr old, and newborn.... yikes lol

But as everyone says : "It's DOABLE!!!"

Congratulations on your pregnancy!! :balloons:

I am doing pre-req stuff right now so I don't have any advice for you but best of luck!!

Congratulations on being pregnant!! That is the best surprise of all! And good luck on getting into nursing school...the wait was really tough for me. Anyways, I'm in my first semester of nursing school right now. Granted, I'm in an accelerated 15 month program...ours is probably much more fast paced than everyone else's. But still...it's tough. I'm just going to be honest. It started off rather slow and easy...but once those tests start coming up there is just massive amounts of work to be done. TONS of reading, we have at least one test every week...every other week it is two exams...plus we do what are called "return demonstrations" where we have to demonstrate mastery of skills in fundamentals (this includes sterile wound care, bed making/bathing, medications including injections, urinary foley catheters, nasogastric tubes and g-tube bolus feeding, oxygenation, blood glucose, and documentation. We only have 6 weeks to complete them all...it's quite overwhelming...but it is doable if you're truly dedicated to it. I'm sure the traditional programs go slower, but I wouldn't necessarily say that makes the content any easier...just less stressful overall. Honestly...I think you'll be just fine. Just as long as you can focus and work your hardest (which I am sure you will!!) you will pass. :) Congratulations again on your pregnancy!!! Update us after you get the big "letter" in a few days!!! GOOD LUCK!

congrats on your baby! That's really great news!

But to tell you the truth, it's going to be VERY HARD going to NS and being Pregnant.

When I was out of HS, a year later I was accepted to a ADN program in Florida and I found out I was pregnant, my due date was not for Jan 1. I was given the choice to start in august or start in Jan, of course I couldn't wait, but it was a great mistake that till this day I regret so much. NS IS REALLY hard, and I had already another baby, she was 2 1/2 yrs old and a very supportive husband. but I failed my first semester b/c I couldn't pass my fundamental lecture class, so I was dropped out of the program. It's just alot of things to do all at the same time, it's crazy....I would tell you to take it easy, ONE DAY AT A TIME! You WILL stress, but if you don't have any other choice(like if you could start in the spring) then just know what you're getting yourself into, I really don't mean to be negative, I'm just saying of personal experience. You know what it is to pregnant, and then add onto that NS! it's crazy, all that stress made my baby come early, he was born Dec. 20th.

But none of that made my dream to pursue nursing stop, I took a break from school to really evaluate what happened and know if nursing was what I really wanted, so after my husband finished school I went back (had to repeat most of my sciences! 5 yr rule!) and now 6 years later I'm starting NS this fall as well.

So really Best luck to you!
