Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer 2010 Applicants

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi everyone, I just applied to SMC ABSN program for Summer 2010. As the deadline is only tommorow, i'm guessing we have quite some time before hearing back. I wasn't able to find how long we have to wait to get a reply. By looking at other forums from past semesters, I read something like 2-3 months? That would be between sometime between Janurary and February 2010? Post back here if you hear or know anything about Summer 2010 :). Good luck!

I just submitted my application for the San Mateo Program Summer 2010. I expect it won't be until February until we hear something. Just have to be patient, I guess. It will be a long wait!

I'm in the same boat. From the looks of posts from past cohorts I'd agree that February is the month we'd start to hear back. Has anyone heard anything about the number of applicants/how competitive this applicant pool is? Because I have a lot of prereqs still to complete I am only eligible for the San Mateo campus (because it begins in June, after my spring semester prereqs will be completed).

Hi! I figured that it would around Feb also. I called SMC admissions about a week or two ago and the receptionist estimated that it would be late Feb/early March. Quite tight for people who get into the April starting SF program! So yeah...we have to wait. L

Awkward, I am in the same boat as you. I am taking 2 pre reqs. right now and will have 3 in the spring. Hoping my Teas score and essays will make a difference. I'm not sure how strongly the pre-reqs in progress count against us.

Me too! I was going to try and get Microbiology completed at DeAnza College, since they are on a quarter system, I'd be done with my last prereq and able to apply to all 3 campuses (April, May and June) But it looks like the class is already full. So it looks like I'm going to have to take it somewhere else, most likely a semester system, which means I'll only be eligible for San Mateo. Does anyone know of any online microbiology classes based out of california? I'm aware of Rio Salado, community college of denver, ocean county college and EduKan, but nothing in California, and so I'd be stuck paying out of state tuition - OUCH!

I also saw that Santa Barbara City college does a Partial online Medical Microbiology 5 unit course, wonder if samuel Merritt excepts this class, and I'm assuming partial means that I'd have to drive down for labs, has anyone taken this course?

On a side not, Haven't heard back from SMU yet but they did cash my application fee check! So at least I know the ball is rolling.

Best of luck everyone.

Hey everyone,

I just got my first email from them, that they received my application. Letter had a lot of information on it about when we should hear back- said by March 1st, which I believe is the deadline for applying for November cohert, so I hope we hear sooner than that. Also interesting is that she said there were 349 application for 144 slots, 48 at each campus- Wow! an increase from last years 320. anyone else get this letter?

Jen

I got the letter as well, was going to send the same note to everyone. If anyone didn't get it I would contact the school. But it did say they have a few more people to to enter into the system.

I did not receive that letter, hmmm. Also, I'm having a really hard time finding a pathophysiology course. I was planning on taking it at santa barbara city college, but it filled up before my registration date came. Because I have not take microbiology yet, I can't take it at Samuel Merritt. I checked most of the classes out on SMU's suggested pathophysiology course list and they're all full. Does anyone know of an online pathophysiology class that would still be open?

Are you applying for summer 2010 start date? if so, and you need Microbiology still, I would try a school with a quarter system, that ends in March, which would make you eligible for all 3 campuses. Unless you try Micro online, but it is a bit pricey because they are all out of state. As for Pathophysiology, I took it this summer and it was really easy to get into at sbcc, so if you have some time, you might try summer session. If there is a wait list at santa barbara, it might be worth getting on it. I was just moved from wait listed #16 to enrolled in Microbiology at DeAnza College, it's not going to be a fun commute from san francisco, but it's only 2 days aweek for a short 3 month quarter. not sure if this answered your question, but hope it helps. I think there is another pathophysiology course online, but I can't remember the name, if I do come across it, I'll post it. Best of luck!

Thanks. I have several classes to take besides pathophysiology so I'm not looking for a class that finishes in March, I've already decided I'll only be eligible for the San Mateo (June start) campus. I'm trying to get onto the waiting list at SBCC. The summer class would not help me since I need to have the course completed before the start of the ABSN program in June.

It's already February. I also received the informational email with the updates. March 1st is only month. Crossing fingers, good luck to you all!
