  1. I understand this is a common type of post, "How do I get hired with no experience if the only positions open require experience." Volunteer, apply as a CNA, apply farther away, network with your school, previous jobs/colleagues etc.-- are among the most common tokens of advice I will get. I understand it's common, especially in these economic times, that many people graduate and wait 1 year or more to find jobs. I have been licensed for 2 months now (RN, BSN, PHN). I've had 2 interviews, neither of which landed a job. I tried all hospitals in my area, and have recently applied to countless SNFs, mental health facilities, prisons, etc. It's just disheartening to know you have a giant loan to start paying off in 2 months without even a nibble. I will not give up and I will keep trying everyday to land this first RN job. I just wonder, what did you do that you found most effective in landing a job? Applying online feels pointless as my resume seems to fade into cyberspace neverland after being sent to so many employers. There is a service, ResumeArrow that allegedly sends your resume and cover letter to 3,000 recruiters, but who's to say my resume would not be a spam message in the inbox of a recruiter. I've found applying in person (SNFs are more likely to have actual hand written applications than big hospitals) to increase my chances. I've had my resume checked by a good deal of professionals and colleagues, but that "New Grad" label seems to always be the downfall. Anyways, I think I got my point across. Any words of wisdom for those starving New Grads?
  2. In support of the PVT, I passed!! Still, I wouldn't call it a fail proof method :). Good luck to those still waiting!
  3. Took the NCLEX-RN in California yesterday at 8:00am, shut off at 75 questions. Got the good popup yesterday after the test, and today this afternoon. I felt it was a very hard and tricky test. After extensive digging through countless forums and posts about the Pearson Vue Trick, it seems most of the time it is accurate, HOWEVER, there were 2 or 3 cases i've read (including on this thread) that indicate they've failed with the good popup. That being said, the trick cannot give me much peace of mind . My classmates claim to have also tried the trick with success, but it is clearly not a guaranteed pass. I will have to wait and see tomorrow.. Good luck to everyone in waiting.
  4. There's now a facebook group for the Oakland Summer cohort. Samuel Merritt - ABSN - Oakland - Class of 2011 good luck everyone!
  5. Didn't realize this was a different Oakland accelerated program than the one I got in! I think this Oakland is in Michigan? Mines in California.. haha. Nonetheless, good luck to you all
  6. Hi everyone. I got my acceptance letter for the SMC Oakland cohort - Summer 2010 yesterday . I'm very excited. Is there a facebook group for this class ? I couldn't find one for this new upcoming class(SMC ABSN Oakland C/O 2011). I'm thinking of creating one. Congrats to those who got in, and good luck everyone!
  7. Congrats jalmario and kimsjc! I got my acceptance letter today in the mail for the Summer - Oakland campus :). My heart felt like it escaped into my stomach when I saw the large packet envelope. Good luck to those that haven't heard!
  8. Received an email today from the admissions pool with an update saying they are working diligently and are on target for the March 1st decisions. It also mentioned If you're applying for Fall 2010 at SF, that you don't need to resubmit transcripts and letters(submitted in summer), but have to resubmit everything else, including fee. My question is, since the fall app deadline is the same as our summer decision letter, is there a grace period where they can accept Fall apps slightly later if we don't get into summer semester? I'll probably email her..
  9. Marie: No, nothing new. This was the same one you received in December. Nerve wrecking isn't it? It's going to be a long month..
  10. It's already February. I also received the informational email with the updates. March 1st is only month. Crossing fingers, good luck to you all!
  11. Hi everyone, I just applied to SMC ABSN program for Summer 2010. As the deadline is only tommorow, i'm guessing we have quite some time before hearing back. I wasn't able to find how long we have to wait to get a reply. By looking at other forums from past semesters, I read something like 2-3 months? That would be between sometime between Janurary and February 2010? Post back here if you hear or know anything about Summer 2010 :). Good luck!
