Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi -

Just curious if anyone else sees rampant cheating going on at their school. I witness it in my Chemistry class all the time.

Its so lame. Adults pulling out cheat sheets and writing answers and formulas on their desks.

I am taking A&P I next semsester and when i asked around for Professor recommendations people said, "oh, try to take so-and-so, everyone cheats and gets A's".

Ummm...kinda scary. Correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldnt a nurse actually need to know some of the things taught in A&P to be a good nurse?

Anyway, my school is an ultra-competitive community college - something like 2,200 students trying to get into 120 nursing spots. Perhaps that is what is driving lots of people to feel they have to cheat.

Anyway, was just curious.

I've heard it about some other schools. What have you done to report it? Have you talked with your school's administration? Have you contacted the student government? etc. If you haven't pursued it and seriously tried to stop it, you are almost as guilty as the cheaters are.

I strongly encourage you to do whatever you can to stop it. It's your duty. Consider it a first "test" of your integrity as a nurse. If people cheat their way through school, they will cheat as a nurse and be a danger to their patients. Don't put up with it. If you tolerate it, it will just continue.

Sad, but true...even nursing students cheat...I see it all the time...you would think that the instructors would have a more watchful eye. The best part about it though is when they go to take the boards and they find out that they really don't know all that much because they spent all their time relying on everyone else...carma will kick in soon enough!!:chuckle

I would definitely report this to your school's administration. Those students that get by cheating are not only cheating themselves out of honestly learning the material, but they are cheating the good students that bust *ss to maintain good grades. I was in this situation last year during Organic chem. I thought the kid sitting next to me was a genius until I noticed him take out a bubble gum wrapper filled with formulas during our midterm. I waited until after the test and I approached the teacher and said " I think you should sit in the front of class from now on...there were people cheating" I didn't mention who it was, but I wanted to make the teacher aware. Well, my instructor took my advice and the kid( who happened to be a premed student) was caught cheating on the final. He was asked to leave and not return. I have no regrets...he got exactly what he deserved:)

um...where are the instructors in all of this.

Fortunately, I didn't notice any rampant cheating in my schools (I've been to several). Scarey.

We had a few cheaters when I was in school. I didn't report them, and I certainly don't consider myself guilty in any way. I never agreed to do the professor's job for him or her; I was too busy doing my job as a student! How they think they'll pass their boards if they haven't learned the fundamentals is beyond me.
