Really, this happen to me yesterday!!! "Oh crap, we have a test can I borrow a scantron?" WTH? Cmon' people. And like a dummy, I gave her a scantron. They come 5 in a pack and we have 5 tests. So now I am shot one. You better believe I am going to hit her up for the last exam. All the while we are taking the test, she is running up to the teacher to "clarify" questions :uhoh3: .

This is the same girl who asked me before class, "So, what did we cover last week?" I was like, "What?" She goes, "remember, I was not in class last week." I just looked at her with a blank stare. I thought to myself, I don't know who the H#$% you are and why in the would would I care if you were in class last week. I am not a school to make friends! Thank goodness she is not going into nursing. I believe she is trying to be a dental hygenist or something. This is the same chick who asked...."Is this going to be on the test?"

Okay, breath......:smokin:(i am not a somker) 6 more weeks with this girl, I can do this.

I don't know I guess it doesn't really bother me at all because they are so cheap, if I wanted to gripe about the extras I will complain that my books actually cost me 4x what my classes cost.

It's not so much the price, but the having to go out and buy them, even if it's in the bookstore at school, sometimes the bookstores are not open when a student is free, etc. It's just another time consuming task to do, when it could easily just be tacked on the fees (like my school does) and the professor hands out scantrons.

I guess since I'm in an accelerated program, there's so much to remember to study 10 chapters each week, etc. that things like bringing an extra pencil can sometimes slip a student's mind, let alone a scantron.

we have ours in the bookstore or in the vending machines on campus I guess its a pain if you aren't used to it, I just bought a pack when I got my books and they are in my note book which I take to class anyway so its never been an issue.

Just wanted to add...

And for the record, I have NEVER heard of you having to buy your own scantrons either.

I would certainly make sure that girl give you one back...and well before the last test too!!

I haven't read all the replies, so excuse me if this is a duplicate, but I would not wait until the last exam to start hitting her up for this...I'd ask at each and every test because odds are, she isn't EVER going to have them, but I wouldn't want to be short one that final test because I depended on her for one!!

And I'm with the other posters....it seems bizarre they make you buy them...but school's are cutting costs everywhere it seems....ugh...

I've had some classes where we bought our scantrons and classes where the teacher provided them. In my case, it just depended on the what the professor wanted.

As for people "asking" for things (pencil, paper, notes, etc.) I go on a case-by-case basis. If the person is generally responsible and was just having a bad day I always say yes. If the person is generally unprepared, late, didn't know there was a test that day, etc., I always say no.

We had a project due a few weeks ago. The first paragraph of the instructions said to buy a folder with pockets and brads, punch holes in our project and put them in the folder and turn it in. As were turned in our projects the person next to me said "do you have an extra folder?" Now why the h*** would I have an extra folder? I only need one for the project. I was irritated and was thinking "now the rest of us made it to Wal-Mart and bought our folder before today, why couldn't you?"

To me, part of what college does for you is to teach you responsiblity and to follow directions. If my classmates don't get it, God help them. It's not my responsiblity to bail them out if they can't.

Haha, it irritates the crap out of me too when someone asks to borrow a scantron. I heard someone the other day asking my neighbor if she had an extra, but she didn't. I just pretended like I didn't hear her asking because I need mine for the other tests.

BTW, I am in CA and I have attended a CSU and a CC and we always had to buy our scantrons. I just pick mine up when I am at the bookstore buying my books at the beginning of the semster.

Yeah, here we have to buy our own scantons, too.

I'm gonna play the devli's advocate, though.. $1.50 is not that bad. I see people coming into class each day with COFFEE that costs more than that. Buying coffee won't lead to a job; paying for scantrons for nursing school will. That's how I look at it.

Anyway, don't worry about this unprepared girl. If she can't focus on bringing a scantron, she will probably not be focused enough to make it through the program. Just give her that scantron and smile as she eventually gets dropped from the program.

Wow, while I greatly respect everyone's opinion, I am left wondering where does the compassion come in? You have not really shared if this is an ongoing problem with this one particular individual. I don't have a problem helping anyone out. Maybe they thought they had scantrons in their backpack. Maybe they just rushed out the door, honestly not knowing they left them on the kitchen table. I see everyone's point about coming to class prepared, but if this person isn't constantly coming unprepared, I would be happy to help. I pride myself on never missing any classes and always being prepared, but occasionally we all drop the ball.

If this is a recurring theme with this girl, I would have sold her one for five bucks.

I would hit her up for one now. I dont know her, but if when the finals come up and she doesnt bring you one, you will be the one who is in trouble. I would get one from her now. There is always at LEAST one in every class.

I just want to say that this is a fun yet insane topic to waste time reading.

I have never used scantrons until my chem class this quarter. The instructor passes them out for free ever class period and tells us to take extras if we need them.

So...if you want some free scantrons come to chem class with me next week!

my school does the same thing. Our scantrons are 1.20 for 8 of them. Not sure why they are not included with the price, but I really don't care. I usually buy them with my books and have financial aid pay for them.
